Shield Spell - This wonderful spell is the first one you learn and probably the most important. Use it to reduce your damage by 1/2. You can find it in the Town of Rauru by talking to the old lady that comes out of the big house. She will lead you to an old man that will teach it to you.
Jump Spell - To get this spell, get the trophy from the cave in the large desert above North Castle. Then bring the trophy to the woman in the big house in the Town of Ruto. She will lead you to an old man that will teach you this spell. With this, you can jump 3 times as high as a normal jump.
Life Spell - To get this spell, bring the mirror form Saria Town (hidden under the table in the empty house) to the woman in the same town. She will lead you to an old man that will teach you this spell. This spell is pretty much worthless because it uses too much magic for such a small heal.
Fairy Spell - In order to get this spell, you will need to trade the medicine to the woman in Mido who will then lead you to an old man that will teach you this spell. This spell allows you to turn into a fairy for one screen, so you can dodge enemies and even go through locked doors.
Fire Spell - When in Nabooru Town, give the thirsty lady some water and she will lead you to an old man that will teach you this spell. This spell lets you launch fireballs for one screen, which is useful to use against really tough enemies.
Reflect Spell - To learn this spell, find the child at Maze Island and bring him to his mother in the Town of Darunia and she will teach you this spell. This spell lets you reflect some energy attacks.
Spell Spell - To get this spell, you need to go to New Kasuto Town and go to the empty large house to learn this from an old man. This is a mysterious spell that produces random effects.
Thunder Spell - This spell is definitely the most powerful one in the game. You can learn this in Old Kasuto Town. The old man in the first house will teach it to you after you have collected all the magic containers. You can use it to attack every single enemy on the screen destroying them.
