FROM PHILLY TO D.C.

              Philadelphia, Jan. 20  -  My daughter and I went in on one
              of two full busesfrom Philly - I had my "not MY Prez" poster,
              plus -- for Helen -- "Catholics for Gore." My Daughter
              carried a poster reading "Philly sez Election Reform
              Now" and the Bushism "I know how hard it is for you to
              put food on your family." That got a ton of laughs
              and pictures! After a great morning rally at Dupont
              Circle -- the young woman lawyer who is leading the
              vote investigation in Tennessee was wonderful -- we
              walked down toward Penn. Avenue. Thousands of us!
              Many people leaned out of apt. windows and offices,
              cheering and giving the thumbs-up sign. Saw virtually
              NO shrub supporters on the way!

              Down near the parade route, chlling sight from decades
              ago, a line of riot-geared cops holding their clubs at
              ready. Blocked nearly all entrances to the parade
              route, but we can confirm that there were WAY more
              demonstrators against shrub along the route than there
              were supporters of the regime. We VoterMarch folks
              met at the Ellipse, where we were herded onto a
              portion of the muddy field behind a 10-foot fence. We
              stormed the fence to chant en masse at the motorcade
              when it came thru -- "Go Back to Texas" and "not MY
              President!" came through loud and clear, shrub
              couldn't have missed it! I know some had bad
              experiences, but -- maybe because I look like the
              middle age mom that I am -- I saw all kinds of support
              from Metro riders, passersby, office workers, etc --
              clearly happy to have us there. Helen, I got lots of
              passing comments on the "Catholics for Gore" sign --
              both in agreement and comments like "There are NO
              Catholics for Gore" or "That's a contradiction!"
              Clearly a lot of strong feeling on that issue!

              We were so proud that so many of us were there and
              angry -- and what a cross-section of humanity --
              young, old, all ethnic types, it was great -- one of
              our group was interviewed by the Swedish press -- a
              true spirit of cameraderie! Came back to Philly about
              9:30 to an ice storm -- but what a great day! We are
              finally being heard! And when we watched that scene
              on TV where shrub tried (and failed) to dance w/
              Laura, then popped his daughter's boob out of her
              dress -- we would have been laughing our asses off if
              it were not so sad. He's such an inept clown.

              My daughter's first demonstration -- she's 25 -- so
              angry and indignant and upset at this country's apathy
              -- she's a real inspiration! And those Texaas types
              that kept strolling past in their black cashmere
              topcoats and full-length minks and cowboy hats --
              they're like a bad joke! Enuf rambling, just wanted
              to give a quick report before breakfast! love to you
              all -- the work is just starting!
