Emma Frost, AKA White Queen, has been quite a surprise to see as the headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. Her record through life has been spotty at best. Perhaps it all started by her being a middle child to a wealthy yet uncaring family. This is uncertain but her main problems definitely are due to her developing psi-powers that she could not contain. Emma Frost has not currently had her age listed to date. A woman, especially a strict one as Emma, does not reveal many secrets. She is in possibly in her late twenties with a younger sister, 17 year old Cordelia, and an older sister named Adrienne. Emma does not get along well with her sisters and now that Adrienne has become a headmaster of the Acadamy along side her, things are not bound to go over well. It is not a surprise that Emma hasn't mentioned her family more until she is pressed to reveal it. Her vicious, strict, wary demeanor due to her upbringing even brings her to keep herself away from her own family, or more likely, what's left of it.

Emma Frost did live in a wealthy family, but she was not happy. Not much attention was paid to her until she reached her teenage years. It was around then that her parents began to think she was mentally disturbed. After all, what would you think if your daughter was developing numbing headaches and heard "voices" in her head constantly? After many appointments with doctors, psychiatrists and the like failed, her parents decided she needed to be taken care of and placed her in an asylum. She was angry with her parents and living the constant abuse of the personnel of the asylum only made her anger worse. It was not until she came to the conclusion that she was hearing other people's thoughts from their heads did she begin to make sense of her powers. While in the asylum she questioned herself, "If I could hear their thoughts, maybe I can get them to hear mine." She psi-whispered a plea to her guard to "take me...out of .....here" Her plea did not go unnoticed as the facility, and people who got in her way, were beaten by the guard carrying her out. She was one of the survivors to walk away as the asylum burned to the ground and she has never looked back to that day or had to ask another person for anything.
