Hydra [Marvel]

International cartel, founded by Nazis and Japanese subversives during World War Two. Named after the unkillable monster of Greek mythology. Their motto: "Hail HYDRA! Cut off a limb and two shall take its place!" BRW MOW SUS

Deathlok [Robin II (Jason Todd) / Deathlok]

Real Name: Jason Todd

Formerly a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Bruce Wayne's protégé, Jason was known as Moonwing. He was thought by all to be killed when Jackal blew up a building intended to kill both Bruce Wayne and Dark Claw.

Jason barely survived, however, and joined forces with Hydra after The Green Skull imprisoned him in a cyborg suit in order to survive. Deathlok is killed by Nick Fury.

Note that the Marvel Universe's Moon Knight had a partner who was killed to be revived as a cyborg. BRW

Green Skull [Lex Luthor / Red Skull]

Real Name: Lex Luthor

First Appearance: All-Adventure Comics #3

Lex Luthor characterizes himself as a "tragic, philanthropic recluse."

A billionaire war profiteer, Lex Luthor learned of the Super-Soldier project and feared that such a champion would bring a swift end to World War II and his ill-gained profits. In 1938, he arranged for Nazi scientists to steal the strange alien craft and its mysterious green glowing rock, known as Green K or the Kansas Lode. Observing that the green rock affected Super-Soldier, Lex created a life-extending serum from the radioactive element, inadvertently transforming himself into the Green Skull.

He used Green K in the construction of Ultra-Metallo. But in March 1942, Super-Soldier intercepts Ultra-Metallo over the North Atlantic as it heads for Washington D.C. Both fall into the ocean during the battle and are lost, presumed destroyed.

Lex's first wife, Lois Lane, was a reporter on the war beat when she met the Luthor at a fund-raising ball. They were wed sometime after March 1942 and produced a daughter, Selina Luthor.

The Green Skull used Green K to develop the destructive K-Bombs. Unfortunately, this gives the United States final victory in the war in 1945. Fallout from the K-Bombs permeates the atmosphere, creating a blanket of radiation around the planet.

Recently captured by Super-Soldier after his attempt to destroy Washington with the reactivated Ultra-Metallo. BRW LOB MOW SUS

Daughter of Lex Luthor, young Selina witnessed her mother being murdered by her father's men. Vowing vengeance on the maniacal old man, she has risen through the ranks of his terrorist group, Hydra, with one goal in mind - destroy and replace him as Supreme Hydra.

Years ago, Selina had a secret tryst with S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Tony Stark, but her allegiance to Hydra and Tony's devotion to S.H.I.E.L.D. drove them apart.

She does become temporary leader of Hydra. Possibly deceased. BRW

Nuke [Bane / Nuke]

Real Name: Bane Simpson

First Appearance: Dare the Terminator #232

Schooled since childhood in the arts of death, Bane was raised in the cruel confines of the Hydra fortress, Santa Prisca, to become the perfect killer. When the Green Skull needed a test subject for the new super-steroid "Venom", he knew choose Bane.

Armed with wrist-mounted Venom injectors, Nuke can artificially increase his speed and strength to become an unstoppable murdering machine. Nuke is insanely jealous of the one man who has everything Nuke feels he should have - S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Bruce Wayne - and has vowed to destroy the agent with his own bare hands. Nuke is seemingly killed when Bruce Wayne rips out his Venom injectors, causing his heart to explode. BRW

Program activated by Green Skull before his apparent death at the hands of Selina Luthor. Designed to thwart Super-Soldier by destroying the East Coast of the USA. BRW

Zero, Baron [Mister Zero (AKA Mister Freeze) / Baron Zemo]

Real Name: S.S. Colonel Baron Wolfgang von Strucker

Strucker escapes the crumbling Nazi empire with Lex Luthor and assists the Nazi agent in creating Hydra, a covert terrorist organization dedicated to the Nazi dream of world domination. (Amalgam Trading Card #89)

Imprisoned in a nitrogen stasis suit since ill-fated mission to kill Super-Soldier. Baron Zero has most recently allied himself with Madame Cat, the Green Skull's daughter, in an attempt to sieze control of Hydra. Apparantly killed when Hydra Base exploded. BRW
