Christmas Tree

Have you ever thought of where the idea of Christmas tree comes from ?

Tradition of Christmas tree originally comes from Germany as early as the 17th century. During this time, the Germans adapted this tree symbol, which in paganism is a symbol of fertility, into a Christian symbol of rebirth. According to the legend, this tradition began when Martin Luther, the founder of German Protestantism, walked through the forest on Christmas Eve and he was so moved by the beauty of the starlit fire trees. Then he brought one and put it inside his home and decorated it with candles to remind his children of God's creation.

This custom spread quickly to England and other parts of Europe and also to United States and Canada, where it soon became a popular tradition. People then decorated it with various kind of things such as blown-glass ornaments, tin angels, paper chains, candles, and cornucopias filled with sugarplums. The simple tree turned into beautiful ornament that became centerpiece of Christmas time.
