My 2004 New Year Resolution

New year also means new commitment to begin 'new' life. Here are my resolutions for this year :

1. Be more patient to my husband

One of my serious weaknesses is my temper. I always work fast and try to be as efficient as possible and I often don't want to understand that not all people can do like I do. My husband is one of the examples. He has his own 'way' to do something and sometimes it doesn't meet my expectation and then I will become impatient and get mad at him. He is very nice and kind, he never scolds me or mad at me unless I begin the 'battle' :o) I realize that my behavior hurts him sometimes and I feel so sorry for that. So this year I want to be more patient to him and try to understand him better. This also means that I want to get mad less often this year :o) I am not perfect wife, but I will strive to get closer to it for my beloved hubby.

2. Learn more Buddhism

Another important thing that is missing in our daily lives is the spiritual side. As a Buddhist I feel that I don't know much about my own religion and I also don't understand much stuff in it. This year I want to study and practice it more seriously and I also will teach my husband more about it. Without appropriate knowledge, I won't be able to guide my husband spiritually and that will be bad for us. That's why I need to learn more about Buddhism and I want to give good example to my husband.

3. Read more books

Reading is one of my hobbies. I love to read any kind of books, but I just don't spend enough time for it lately. That makes me become less knowledgeable and I want to catch up by reading more books this year. I hope there will be another "Harry Potter" book comes out too !

4. Be more generous

When we are busy with our own lives, sometimes we forget to take care of people surrounding us. It's not good because it will make our lives become imbalance. I realize that in this world we need to take and give, and while we are busy taking care ourselves, there are people who also need our helps. This year I want to be more generous by giving more to those in needs. The simplest and easiest way to do that is by giving charity at the temple and I promise I will do that regularly starting from now.

5. Talk more often to my parents

Living and working in different city from my parents sometimes makes us get 'farther' from each other. My parents are getting older each year and I want to give more of my attention to them. One thing that I can do easily is to talk more often to them and call them regularly. That way I hope we can understand each other better and strengthen our relationships.
