In this section we offer the in depth info for those of you newbies interested in DC who have a few unanswered
questions. This is in question-answer format, and if you have any extra questions not covered here, feel free to ask during
a meeting, ask an officer, anyone, post it on the board, or e-mail me, coool?
1) What is Theater Club really?
TC is a theater sponsored club and is used as a front for fundraising, endorsing, and organizing our theater program. The
Club is also used to gather and recruit people into the theater, bringing together actors, techies, and ushers together for
the shows.
2) Do I have to be in the theater class to be in TC?
No. Theater Club meets after school. However, being in the class will help you (a)get closer to the theater, (b)be more up to
date on DC affairs, and (c)with your HS credits since you need 1 fine arts credit.
3) What's this about a fine arts credit?
Being in a Theater I, Tech. Theater, or Advanced/Theater Production class counts as a Fine Arts credit which is needed to graduate.
This is an aside of TC, but worth mentioning to those of you interested in theater.
4) Do I have to be in the show if I'm in TC?
You are expected to be @the audition, even if you don't want to be in the show's cast or crew. As a member of TC, you
are expected to be invovled in the shows in SOME way i.e. selling tickets, ushering, advertising, etc.
In the reverse, if you are in the show, it would be benficial to you to be in TC, but again, it's not required.
5) What's a Thespian, and do I have to be in TC to become one?
The International Thespian Society (ITS) is an international theater organization. To join/qualify to be a Thespian,
you have to earn 10 ITS points, gained by participating in the shows and other ways. Becoming and staying an active Thespian
is explained in the Constitution.
Yes. After you are Inducted as a Thespian, you are expected to be at the TC meetings.
6) What's this about fundraisers?
All clubs need money, no? TC is no different. Our fundraisers are planned by the officers, and the money goes to the TC
account for the things like (a)going to the ITS Convention, (b)props and costumes, (c)field trips, etc.
7) Do we have to do community service?
Quite frankly, yes. The officers specify how much hours are required per semeste. TC, as well as a club, needs to
contribute to our community. We'll have several group services a semester. You can go to all, or just enough to meet your
minimum.
8) Will we get to get out of school for a field trip?
We hope: yes! If we raise the money, the officers will organize a group DC field trip during school hours. We HOPE! ^_^
9) Why should I join TC?
Colleges look @ your participation in school, and the more clubs, usually the better. DC is a fun and beneficial club
for your resume
There'll always be things for you to do. Theater needs constant maintenance.
It's FUN! ^_^ In TC, you quickly get close to everyone else, and the bonds the theater creates leads to great friendships
and comradery.
10) Is this going to take up a lot of time?
That depends on you. TC requires dedication to the theater. How much dedication you are willing to give... there are
those of us who only go to the meetings, shows, and outings, and then there are those of us who breathe and sleep the theater.
It depends on you.
11) What are Theater Club Crews?
The crews are little sectors of the club who do things. For example: the historian's crew helps the historian take pictures, work on the scrapbook, and other displays; the set/clean up crew is responsible at TC functions to help clean and set up the food and decorations before and after. You sign up for the crews and each crew elects their own crew chief to maintain them.
12) Why should I be a crew chief?
It's a responsibility that you can mention on your college app.
If you're interested in being a Theater Club officer, it's a good idea to start off as a grade representative or crew chief first. It proves your responsibility
13) Is it possible for a freshman to be cast into a play?
Yes. Highly yes. Freshman and new people: Don't be disappointed if you're cast into a small role. Everyone starts out small, and if you keep auditioning, you can ask anyone in the current cast and they will tell you that if you're committed, you work up by the end of the year.
14) Finally, what is this "TheatER" and "TheatRE" ness about?
"TheatER" is the building itself. The auditorium, the blackbox, the bricks, the matierial building. "TheatRE" is the organization, the troupe itself. The people and the art of theatre.
15) What's this about Poster Making Crews and what happens if I don't make the posters I'm supposed to make? *NEW*
The poster Crews (Group A and Group B) are supposed to be our means of major advertising for our shows. They will alternate shows. Specific due dates for the psoters will be posted on the site and told to you at TC meetings.
Poster requirements for each person: 2 Big posters of 6-9 8X11 sized flyers.
If you DON'T meet your quota... you don't loose Thespian points. More like... you're added to the "Wall of Shame" for a while. More info on that later.
