'Emotional Coma', the latest release from Lion's Share is their fifth album and first for six years. This album is probably the strongest of the current line-up in Lion's Share. This album from start to finish is a bit heavier than all previous albums. The band is powered by, Nils Patrik Johansson on vocals, Lars Chriss on guitar, Sampo Axelsson on bass and keyboards and Richard Evensand on drums. 'Emotional Coma' is straight ahead melodic metal with an old school vibe. Right off the bat Lion's Share assault your senses with, "Cult Of Denial" and continue the barrage with, "The Arsonist" and the powerful title track. They also serve up a killer cover of Angel Witches' "Sorcerers". Lars Chriss' guitars are front and center with crunchy riffs and several nice solos. Recently departed Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover and former Kiss axeman Bruce Kulick make guest appearances. Edgy and melodic, there are some very catchy songs that still have plenty of aggression. Emotional Coma is heavy and direct and comes across, musically, as blend of Black Sabbath, Queensryche and Pantera, with a few hints of Accept and Metallica thrown in for good measure. 'Emotional Coma' delivers more of that stunning, unmistakable Lion's Share sound: great musicianship, top-notch vocal delivery and superb songwriting. Lion's Share has still managed, with this release, to put out an effort that proves they have not lost any steam, and are still one of the better bands out there when it comes to keeping their material fresh and exciting. Highly recommended. |
