Brian Sipp

Brian Sipp was a boy without direction. He knew that there had to be something out there, something fulfilling. He spent years and years searching for it. Finally, in despair, he wandered into Badin High School's Little Theater. He found himself at a Godspell practice. And there, in the corner, he saw it. As soon as he laid eyes on it, he knew he had found the meaning of his life. It was the spotlight. Brian spent hours looking longingly at the spotlight. When the practice ended, he went home just like everybody else. But he came back the next day. And the next, and the next, and each day, he gazed up in wonder at the spotlight as if it were a stranger offering him candy. Finally, overcome with sympathy for Brian, the director allowed him to join the crew of Godspell as the spotlight operator.

Brian threw himself into his job with great enthusiasm. Operating the spotlight was what he was born to do. He lovingly wrote each light cue in his script. The actors could feel his newfound happiness through the beams of joy the spotlight emitted. Though his figure at the top of the theatre was obscured by the glare of the spotlight, those on stage could be sure he was always smiling down on them.

Lightboy, as he came to be known to the cast, was always modest about his accomplishments. This is a great feat, considering the praise that was heaped upon him by everyone who saw Godspell. "It would have been really dark without the spotlight," said one student, who wishes to remain anonymous. Lightboy was unprepared for this sudden fame. Overwhelmed, he retreated from the public eye.

The photo above depicts Lightboy attempting to avoid the relentless paparazzi chasing him. He attempts to shield his face with his own camera. It is very sad when a humble person like Lightboy can't even attend his own prom without being chased by the media. In the photo above, one can also note his impeccable fashion sense. Lightboy was always dressed sharply, whether he was all decked out in his tuxedo, or operating the lights in his humble black pants and t-shirt.

We can all learn a valuable lesson from Lightboy's example. He is always composed and controlled. This is due to his mastery of Zen meditation. One could frequently find Lightboy backstage, meditating, his legs contorted into a painful looking position. But the blissful expression on his face made it obvious that he could ignore the pain. And that blissful expression assures us all that Brian Sipp will undoubtedly achieve enlightenment someday. We salute you, Lightboy.
