The New Ending of Godspell

The new ending of Godspell was written by the cast of Theatre Badin's production of Godspell. The first and only performance of the new ending took place on April 1st, 2001.

As Jesus bids goodbye to his diciples, the band sings "Send in the Clowns" in the background, providing the emotional underscoring of the scene. Jesus then prays to his father for strength to endure what he knows he must do. Suddenly, the Well-Fed Bovine appears on the scene. The cow who we all thought was killed off at the end of act one has returned, with sinister intentions. Blowing his police whistle, the cow drags Jesus to the chain-link fence and ties him up. "Oh God, where's the beef?" Jesus laments. The cow then helps the diciples carry the body of Jesus out of the theater. The cast returns to take their bows as the band plays "Seventy-Six Trombones."
