The Barb and Michael visit New York, August 2002

Here are some of the highlights of our trip to the Big Apple. And just to answer EVERYONE's number one question, yes, Michael is still alive (I'm not THAT hard-assed, people!) Generally New York was HOT (between 95 and 100) and unbelievably humid (100%) -- way too much moisture for this chickie who comes from "so dry you get nosebleeds" Alberta. We had sunny weather the whole time. Thank god for air conditioning. Okay, enough chatter. On to the lovely photos.

This is the two of us at the Times Square Visitor Centre. It's the only air-conditioned respite in mid-town. The photo was taken by The Barb's sister (who was in town on business and staying at the Soho Hilton. This, in contrast to the non-luxury digs at the YMCA (photos to come).

The Barb with her sister Elaine (the one who was staying in nice digs).

Elaine and actor/boyfriend Jorge.

Our lovely room at the Y. Bunk beds (The Barb put in dibbs on the bottom bunk -- poor Michael had to do major climbing each night). At least the room was air conditioned.

The Barb on the bed. Michael took the picture sitting in a chair at the end of the room.

Michael in chair at the end of the room. The Barb took this photo from her position in the bed. I told you this was a small room.

We hit all the hot spots. The Barb at Macy's. By the way, shopping wise we were not good for each. We say "Stop me from spending so much money." "Okay". "Hey look, shoes!" "Let's go!"

We found this lovely garden just outside Macy's to take a much needed break (from all the shopping we weren't supposed to have done).

Michael and The Barb in Chinatown

Michael outside the Artisans Gate at Central Park (playing tourist to the hilt -- note the Macy's bag and playbill)

We rode the subway a LOT! This station was our "home" station (it was still a 15 minute walk after that home)

The Barb and Michael at Times Square. Told you we rode the subway a lot.

The Barb and Michael in Shubert Alley

And we made a little side trip to Paris. Actually, thats the Washington Arch.

The Barb in front of the downtown TKTS location.

The security guy who worked the TKTS booth. He was a total hoot.

Michael in front of the New Amsterdam theatre where Lion King was playing. We saw a lot of shows. That was one of them.

The Barb outside the cheap internet place (it may have been cheap, but it was also slow! You've never seen hotmail load so slowly!)

The Barb and Michael with Steven Webber (Wings, Once and Again, Jeffery). There was some celebrity stalking to be done and we ran into all sorts of celebs.

The Barb with Alan Rickman (Truly, Madly, Deeply; Galaxy Quest, Sense and Sensibility, etc. etc.). The Barb LOVES this guy. He was also excellent in Private Lives which was the play he was doing on Broadway.

The Barb with Elmo -- who got really really fresh!
