The Heart's Road

From: Caileight of Cerilia

The candle burns low, these words I write
I'll not be here when ye wake
I'll stay wi' ye through the night
But come the morning light--I'm gone, I'm gone.

Aye, a tongue can be a lash
When it's hearts, not promise, break'd
I'll not look into the past
Unless it asks--come home, come home.

Tho' the road be long away,
I promise I'll return someday
'Til the words are on your lips--
I'll say goodbye.
Tho' we may be far apart,
Know you're never far from heart
When the words are on my lips--
I say goodbye.

Do ye wonder what I fear
To say farewell within a song
You're not sure you want me near
So if ye'd keep me dear--let go, let go.

But when the road is full of dust
An' it's for hearth and home I long
You see a figure in the dusk
Ah, but did ye trust--I'd come home, come home?

For tho' the road be long away,
I promise I'll return someday
'Til the words are on your lips--
I'll say goodbye.
Tho' we may be far apart
Know you're never far from heart
When the worda are on my lips--
I say goodbye.

An' when I return to you
Will ye greet wi' open arms
Or will ye turn yourself from view
To something new--alone, alone?

But if ye will wait for me
An' your heart does remain warm
Then ye'll hear before ye see
My voice rising free--I've come home, come home.

Aye, tho' the road was long away,
I promised I'd return someday
Until the words were on your lips--
I'd say goodbye.
An' tho' we were far apart,
Aye, ye were never far from heart
When the words were on my lips--
I said goodbye.

Aye, the road be long away,
But I will be back someday
It's when my haret is on my lips--
I say goodbye--
I say goodbye.
