Computers are a basic necessity of life these days. We as a society are completely dependant upon our computers. Computers run the world. There is no way around the fact that we are completely dependent upon computers. We truly found this out during the millennium Y2K scare. We thought that the world would shut down, missiles would randomly launch etc… We are so completely dependent upon our machines, which all are computer controlled. This is only going to get worse or better depending upon how you look at it.
There are groups of scientists and engineers right now coming up with smaller and faster computers. The latest of the developments is that of voice activation. Since they are coming up with so many new and smaller computers. They needed a way for us to interact with these computers. Voice activation is the best way they could come up with. This was in its very primitive form a few years ago. It was somewhat of a fantasy only seen in the movies. Where the rich and famous movie star walks into his or her house and calls for "lights" and they miraculously come on.
That scenario is not far from being as common as a toaster in the home, probably within the next ten years. Students at MIT are in the process of making computers more human. They want us to be able to just tell it what we want it to do and it is done. Some people already have voice activated PCs in their homes. Yet these are in the infant stages in comparison to where they will be at in the near future. Sprint PCS already has cellular phones that dial to specific commands that you pre-program into the phone.
Another way that computers are taking even more of a strong hold on our society is in California there is a group that has sent out to educate everybody about computers. Their initial intent was aimed at lower class people. They are trying to make sure that everybody has an opportunity to learn how to use the computer. Especially in the ghettos and slums of the big cities in California where computer knowledge is at a premium. People must have some knowledge in computers to make even a low to moderate income. That is not only in California and big cities but, nationwide.
So, with more and more technological advances being made, society in ten or so years is going to be bound by computers. There isn't a way around it. The faster and more efficient the manufacturers make them. The more people will pay whatever to have them, because it makes their lives that much easier. Regardless if we completely lose power someday, which is already at a shortage in the big cities. We will still need our computers. We will just invent a new computer that will generate power somehow. Computers are almost everywhere now. In ten years they will be EVERYWHERE.
