Grain of Sand

Poem by Barbara Jones

On a grain of sand the world depends
Through a sea of fear that knows no end
While children starve in a country far
We scan the skies for a falling star.
Where is the word HUMANITY
Where is the help for you and me
Gone is the light that shone so bright
To guide us through the darkest night.
If all is gone and naught remains
Then carry on and play war games
But not while children starve and die
In the blinking of a human eye.
Greed is the ogre, envy, hate
These all bring the empty plate
The weakest suffer through the land
While the world depends on a grain of sand
But an hour glass can soon run dry
With the closing of a human eye.
