The Bentilean mini-mag No. 7

31 April, 1992

Editorial

Welcome to issue 7 of this mini-mag version of The Bentilean magazine. This issue has a permier assortment of prose and poetry including an article on olde English customs, a final three page report on PEP (at least until after the result of their feasibility study is published May/ June), and a selection of poetry, including two by Anon -- by someone who wished to remain anonymous (happy ot oblige!).

Meanwhile, I was surpised to see recently that I'd received a bit of anonymous publication. At least, a newsletter titled "Opportunities for Adults in Community Education" (catchy!) quotes in a plug for the Willfield Open Learning Centre, Lauder Place North, a paragraph from an article about the Centre written by me in issue two of the full mag (Xmas 90). The quote refers to the 'un-classroomish atmosphere of the Centre', to fit in with the slogan "Return to Learn Not to School" (also coined by me, for a leaflet/poster). It is a pity though that neither I, or The Bentilean, is credited as the source. Not to do so smacks of plaigarism (the publishers' term for common theivery). Were I an embittered cynic I would wonder if it were to do with my disassociation with the Centre, and point to the interesting coincidence of the newsletter being edited by Janet Mason, Project Leader with the Bentilee Volunteers (publishers of rival mag, The Bentilee Bulletin), who, on learning of my intention to start a community mag back in 1990 suggested that "it would be a lot of work for one man" and suggested I may "like to join (their) newly formed writing group" instead (Scribblers). Fortunately, I'm no such thing.
