An empty shell

Poem by Sharon Elton

I took his hand
And placed my lips upon each finger
Slowly
One by one
But he showed no emotion
No reaction to the tears he could see in my eyes
No sorrow, no regret to the pounding of my heart
He just turned away, walked away
Leaving me desolate, wounded, scarred
An empty shell
