Christmas Kiss

"Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright…" sang Reg Hollis as he put up the remaining Xmas decorations around the nick.

"Reg, what d’you call this?" Matt Boyden held up some mistletoe he had found hung in the canteen doorway.

"Oh, it’s mistletoe Sarge."

"I can see that Reg, what are you doing putting it up in the canteen doorway? People go there to eat Reg, not watch people kissing!"

"I just thought it would be nice Sarge," defended Reg.

Matt shook his head and walked off. Polly approached Reg who was still stood on his step-ladder.

"What did he want Reg?"

"Oh, hello Polly. He said mistletoe wasn’t appropriate in the canteen doorway."

"Spoil-sport. Hey, I know a good place to put it, pass it here Reg." Reg passed the mistletoe to Polly, then Polly aimlessly strolled out of the canteen and down the corridor. She knew a perfect place to put the mistletoe, just for Sgt Boyden.

Bob Cryer was looking everywhere for June Ackland, she was nowhere to be seen.

"Ah, Matthew, have you seen June anywhere?"

"Erm, I think she’s gone to catch up on some paperwork."

Bob looked down at the pile of paper he had to give June. He didn’t fancy listening to her moaning about paperwork, he had to go and see Monroe.

"You couldn’t give her this could you Matthew, I’ve got to see Monroe."

Matt gave one of those faces, Bob smiled and handed him the paper, said thanks and disappeared.

Matt walked down to the Sergeant’s office, passing Gary and Polly in custody. June was just about to come out of the office when she bumped into Matt.

"Here, Bob asked me to give you these,"

"Oh, you’re joking. I’ll never get home tonight with all this work to do." She looked hopefully at Matt. "How much work have you got to do?"

"Now June-"

"Please Matthew," she begged. Matt sighed and took the papers from her. He sat down and began work on the report sheets. June sat opposite him and gave a sly smile as she had managed to get Matt Boyden to do some of her work.

It was close to the end of the shift now, Matt Boyden had almost finished the report sheets and June had gone to get them both a cup of tea. Vicky Hagan strolled and distracted his attention whilst Polly hung the mistletoe she had acquired earlier from Reg in the doorway of the Sergeants office. When she had completed this, the two PC’s left, trying their best not to laugh.

Bob entered the office and saw that Matt had been roped into doing the reports, he turned to walk out and bumped into June. Polly, brought their attention to the mistletoe above their heads. After exchanging uneasy looks Bob leaned over and gave June a small peck on the cheek.

He then left before anyone noticed he had gone bright red. June sat down, avoiding eye contact with Matt.

June managed to finish all her paperwork and had thanked Matt a couple of times before leaving him to finish the reports.

Polly came in carrying another cup of tea for him.

"Thanks Poll,"

Polly leaned closer to him, until she was in the way of his paperwork. He looked up at her with a small scowl.

"How about a Xmas kiss under the mistletoe Sarge, for Xmas?"
