The Delivery
disclaimer: Come on it’s only a short story I’m sure Pearson and co. didn’t even miss them, but if they did I wasn’t the one that borrowed them, those are lies all lies, Smiffy clearly had too much to drink and doesn’t remember properly! honest!
Smiffy loaded the last of the heavy boxes into the panda and sighed. "You could have helped." he suggested to Cass.
"I asked if you wanted a hand with that, and you said you could manage." she reminded him.
"One box by myself, not five." he protested. "Anyway, I don’t know why CID aren’t doing this, it’s their responsibility."
"Yeah, but it’s hard work so they couldn’t manage it without help from Uniform." she replied.
"I suppose it’ll be worth it if everything goes well tonight." he smiled.
"Yeah, it should be a blast." Cass grinned.
"Is everyone from Uniform going to be there?" Smiffy asked.
"As if anyone would miss this." she remarked.
"I heard DS Boulton tried to organise an obbo for the same time, but no one was willing to go on it with him." Smiffy reported
"He would!" Cass smiled. "I don’t blame CID for not bothering to go with him."
"I think Kerry said she suggested he ask Reg to go with him and he just glared at her and walked off in a huff."
Cass laughed. "Well you better let the Sarge know that we’ve got them before we’re in trouble for taking too long."
"Sierra Oscar from 833" Smiffy called over the radio.
"833 from Sierra Oscar, receiving." June’s voice returned over the radio.
"We’ve collected the packages." Smiffy answered with a grin, exchanging knowing looks with Cass.
"Check the list that Tony made you." June reminded him.
"Yes Sarge." Smiffy answered and compared the contents of the boxes to the list he’d been given. "It’s all here Sarge." he reported as Cass examined the boxes for herself. "And CID are going to fix them up later?"
"That’s the plan." June replied sounding less than impressed by it all.
"Are you sure they’d notice if we nicked off with one of these?" Cass asked with a grin.
"Not if they’d finished the others first, but we’ve still got a shift to finish so how about we leave them for later."
June’s voice interrupted them. "All right Smithy, drop it off at the pub and then get back to patrol A. S. A. P."
"Yes Sarge." Smiffy answered and he and Cass climbed into the car and he drove out of the car park of the off license.
"Explain it to me again Bob." June asked turning to her college.
"What?" he asked.
"Why CID need Smiffy and Cass to deliver five boxes of booze to the community hall?"
"Easy." Bob smiled. "They’re organising the booze for the Christmas party."
"And why couldn’t they find a van to get take it to the pub?"
"They’re CID." he replied and June rolled her eyes in disapproval as she took the next call.
