And you’re wondering why
gays and lesbians need parades
what could the most hated and tormented
group have to celebrate?

It’s PRIDE!

It’s
Proud gays and lesbians,
Rebuking prejudices and
Injustices while
Daring to love and celebrating that we
Exist

It’s PRIDE!
It’s crotch grabbing bulldaggers and
Flaming finger popping fags and drag queens
Sashaying under rainbow banners while
Sweaty dancers continue to gyrate
in hot crowded streets
Trading numbers at the peer and
waiting for a breeze

Its PRIDE!
It’s me - doin’ my soulful strut in Crazy Nanny’s
with Nubian Femmes and Butches
some old, some new to the scene
or At Henrietta Hudson’s with beautiful Blondes
and leather wearing Harley ridin’ brunette dykes,
or at Escuelita’s with luscious Latina senorita’s
in fish net tights

and anywhere else -where pride parades and our sameness
brings us together and I at least get
one more day
where without a single thought -my partner and I
can freely walk- hand in hand together

It’s PRIDE!
Proud gays and lesbians,
Rebuking prejudices and
Injustices while
Daring to love and celebrating that we
Exist

and goddamn it I wish every single day
                      could be just like this!
