Fathers

Watch your child sleep at night,
Come close to the bed and bless this sleep
'Cause you might feel like leaving tomorrow.
When morning comes your child's eyes
Look like the sun to you, bright, shining through.
You can't help turning your head the other way
'Cause your child could see the mask
That might just feel like leaving tomorrow.
At noon you have a break and stroll down the streets,
You have a break and forget your father ways,
You have a break and forget the ring at your finger,
What's the matter with smiling at beautiful strangers.
For one of them, you might feel like leaving tomorrow.
At the end of the day, you come home confused.
As always you kiss your wife hello,
You call her honey, it's so difficult to say her name
With someone else's lipstick on your tongue.
And anyway you've made up your mind,
She never gave you enough, you deserve more,
She never thrilled you enough, another gives you more.
You feel like leaving tomorrow.
Tonight, don't go watch your child sleep,
And hide away from his eyes,
Their light might just feel like burning tomorrow.
