Analyzing of the 1st book of hish. | ||||||||
Main | ||||||||
1st Book | ||||||||
1st sentence: “The wee was green as she walked down of the road into Glory High.” -The wee could be the grass or land. -It is unclear who “she” is refereeing to, many people believe that is the traveler and that this is the only proof their gender. But the author has stated previously that the traveler is in fact male. It is also possible that “she” is in fact the queen. This is most likely the answer. -Glory High is the swamp and setting of this book. 2nd sentence: “She went forth upon the blue yellow strives.” -The “she” in this sentence is the same “she” as in the first sentence, and could still be referring to the queen. -The “blue yellow strives”: the question here is what is a strive. It is written as a noun, but in English strive is a verb. To strive, according to Webster’s dictionary, means “To struggle or fight forcefully; contend: strive against injustice.” Thus we can only conclude that the author is referring to the inhabitants of Glory High, and that the there was a great struggle between them and the queen. -Now when it comes to the blue and yellow part, one could say blue is a metaphor for strength, and yellow is a metaphor for cowardisum. But it is more likely that when placing blue and yellow together you get two of the three primary colors on the painters painting wheel. The other primary color being red, which is mostly stand for blood. This would give for shadowing to the massacre that will later come. 3rd sentence: “The queen was not impressed, he cut off everybody’s heads.” -Simply enough, the queen was not impressed with the creatures of the swamps rebellious and had everyone’s head cut off. -Now the queen is referred to as “he” in this sentence. All through out the Hish. books there is constant gender switches. One could state that this is only the authors attempt at a minor theme being that there is truly no real genders. That people are people, and the sex of a person does not make that person. 4th sentence: “The brown cockatoo’s head splattered red crimson against the wood paneled sleeves.” -The brown cockatoo: most, if not all, cockatoos are white colored with a yellow or orange crust and are a type of parrot. Now cockatoos are fairly harmless, but can be very noise animals. This could show that the people of the swamp spoke out against the queens tenancy. And the brown color could show that the battle was very brutal and muddy. -“red crimson” could only be referring to the cockatoo’s blood that was shed after it’s decapitation. -And the wood paneled sleeves could represent the two pieces of wood that the blade of a guillotine slips into at it’s base. This would also prove that the queen uses a guillotine instead of using an axe man. But this also does not rule out that she never uses an axe man. 5th sentence: “People down under was the color of the bed tones until dark, when the carints were not aloud to drive.” -This sentence reviles that not everyone was killed in the battle. The many creatures hide under ground to escape the queens genocide. -The color of bed tones until dark could mean that they slept during the day to be awake to watch out for the queen. Or that they were under the ground so long that they lost the connection to night and day. -the carints or some sort of creature that are not aloud to “drive” or travel around during the wake hours. 6th and 7th sentence: “My jaw soon feel off, not to talk about it, but the new ones green. Not gold, not an odd color mold.” -It is highly known that the author suffers from T.M.J., a jaw disorder caused by grinding and clinching of the teeth while asleep. It is merely a play of words. His jaw falls off and then to continues to say “not to talk about it”. The humor comes when the reader realizes that he can’t possibly talk about it since he has no jaw. -The color green referrers to being organic, or common While gold means valuable and mold means old. Thus, he did not get neither a new jaw that costs a lot, nor an old used one. -These two sentences are also the first time the narrator referrers to himself, thus the traveler enters the story. What significances the traveler’s jaw has to do with him coming into the world of hish. is unknown at this time. But it is suspected that the realm might excited inside of a dream world since the cause of T.M.J. happens during sleep. That the traveler is really only dreaming. This cold be a reference back to other similar tales where a traveler travels to another strange world such as in “Beyond the looking Glass” or “The Wizard of Oz.” and in the end their travels end up as only a dream. 8th and 9th sentence: “Down the road there lived a drunken squirrel. His name was Sassafras.” -In these two sentences introduces the squirrel. The squirrel is a running character through out many of the Hish. Books. -It is at first reviled that the squirrel is a male, but the rest of the time it is referred to as she. Thus we can only conclude that this is once again another attempt by the author at his theme of people are people, and the sex of a person does not make that person. -There is no real meaning behind the name of Sassafras. It is just a popular name that the author has used in many of his other writings. 10th and 11th sentence: “She lived by the river, and ate whatever fish she could catch. Their names where usually Fred or Velma, determining their sex.” -Here the squirrel is first and finally marked as a female. -She lives by a river and likes to fish there for food. It is believed that she lives in a tree that sits close to the river. -It is stated that all the fish in the river are either named Fred or Velma, determining their sex. So it one would think that all the male fish would be named Fred and all the female fish would be named Velma. But it does not say that. In many of the other writings by this author, a lot of the time he gives very male names to females and vise ‘versa. Once again, this is referring back to the authors theme of no sexes only people. 12th and 13th sentence: “There was a stegosaurs that lived in her basement. His name was Blue Glue.” -These two sentences introduce another running character, Blue Glue. He’s a stegosaurs and lives in the squirrel’s basement. -The name Blue Glue is not to have any inner meaning. 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th sentence: “He was not a friendly Blue Glue, fore he was an angry Blue Glue, that would not secondly eat someone’s intestines out. I feared this Blue Glue, fore he did not fear me, and therefore I feared him. But why? He was not big, he was not strong, he was not big or strong. Fore he did not fear me, and that was it.” -These five sentences all combine to give Blue Glue’s personality. -Statement 14 reviles the he is not friendly and very angry. That he is very capable of high extreme violence. -The next four statements go on to explains the fear that the traveler holds for the |
