SECRET YEARS #4: "BEYOND TERMINUS". 'Where is Superboy?' reads the newspapers. Perry White, a reporter for the Daily Planet believes there is a connection between Billy Cramer's death and Superboy's disappearance. He finds the whistle that Billy had the day of his death, while Superboy has returned to Smallville to dwell in his private cave (his hide-out in Smallville). Filled with sorrow for his dead friend Billy, he destroys his Superboy robots in anger. He realizes he can never save the ones he loves.
Superboy takes off to live in the Bermuda triangle and figures he'd be better off staying there for good. Meanwhile, Luthor has launched dangerous missles into outerspace. He makes a T.V. appearance, and states that 36 satellites orbit the Earth. If Superboy didn't meet him in Russia, then he would extinguish the Earth.
Perry White blows the whistle, figuring Superboy would show up. Sure enough, Superboy responds.
Perry tells him about Luthor's plot and so he sets out to stop Luthor. But Luthor is ready for him. Luthor empowers himself with beams from the satellites. He assumes this will give him a fair fight. Superboy and Luthor fight it out, but Superboy outsmarts him when he pretends like he isn't breathing. Luthor shuts down his scheme which gives Superboy the chance to catch him red-handed.
At this moment, Superboy declares, "No more Superboy--from now on it's Superman!"
Clark Kent graduates college.
Perry White gets the exclusive and gets promoted to Editor-in-chief, and within weeks Clark is hired at the Daily Planet. The rest, as we know, is history....
