A. No Rest for the Wicked
B. No Say (live) |
Released Nov '98 as a white vinyl 7 inch, manufactured by Corduroy Records, Melbourne. This became The 'Bed's 2nd radio hit, & public fave, helped by the single giveaways on the launch nite. Delaney came up with the no single phrase, Stu came up with the songs. "No Rest..." bass/drums were recorded on 4-track, using 2 dodgy mikes in a very live loungeroom. Horns were added later with the very same mikes, courtesy of Tatiana Pajo (bone) & Brian May (horn), who along with Stu & Del, made up the original BrassBed lineup. The sound was then "fixed up" in Atlantis by slapping reverb on the whole song. It was called DarkVerb.
This very lineup was captured live on the B side, playing "No Say" to a vibed crowd at The Esplanade, St Kilda. The entire gig was recorded by 3PBS-FM, and Stu was warmed-up having played just before on the same stage in Kim Salmon & the Surrealists, who went live-to-air on that occasion.
