Sherab Holley

Violinist, kabaret artiste, avant-garde composer, improviser, tango-ologist, experimentalist, teacher, positive conduit....

Hailing from "up-North" of Australia, Sherab has played for Brass Bed since 2004 on violin...She previously appeared in many critically acclaimed Melbourne Ensembles such as PIANO TRIO DENUDE, TRIO TRIBADE, SILO STRING QUARTET, 8 HANDS STRING QUARTET, impro-duo DOUBLE HELIX, contemporary music ensemble NOW, & Rock/improv band CAMERA OBSCURA. Also, she appears on several film scores, on radio & on CDs.

Most recently, she performed & toured within the kinky kabaret experience of MISTRESS JOSEPHINE'S KABARET DESSERTS.

Sherab is currently combining composition & experimental music with computer sound design & live improvisation. In collaboration with some of Melbourne's finest musician/artists, she's creating new artistic forms by melding her interest in cultural theory & Buddhism with her passion for music.

In 2004, Sherab & Tim Hilton (from Brass Bed) formed the sound design unit known as SUB-TILE, releasing a self-titled double CD (which also features Brass Bedfellow Rhys Braddock on drums). It's avant-garde improvisational music, spotlighting Sherab's violin with trombone & highly treated noise samples. This music has been used to underscore dance performances & other art-based events.

At present Sherab is passionate for Laurie Anderson, Astor Piazzolla, The Velvet Underground, The Dirty Three, Prokoviev, Kurt Weil and Sub-tile.
