As the national anthem plays in the background of Thorpe Gym, 150 gleaming sets of eyes stare at our nation's flag and prepare for that final note signaling the end of the anthem and the beginning of madness. Welcome to the wild side: the side where cheering does not stop, the side where everyone is joined in a single goal, the side where insanity rules and joy runs freely. Welcome to the side where the Creek Crazies rule. All right, here's the scene: Late 1998, St. Mary's against Bear Creek, packed house, senior Mike Ferroni and junior Joe Soria have no room to sit. Instead, they stand at the base and cheer for their squad. Energy from the players and fans can be felt in the air. Excitement is everywhere. Mike looks over to Joe. "Every game should be like this!" Mike exclaims. And the Creek Crazies are born. One year later, the basketball team is ranked number one and the Creek Crazies have grown to over 75 official members. "Our job is to come and bring the ruckus every single night," senior Joey Rocha said, and ruckus is exactly what they bring. The Creek Crazies, now an official club, show up for every Bruin game decked out in Bruin jerseys with soda cans filled with change, blue and silver hair and enough emotion to blow the opposing team out of the water. Sometimes the fans can get so crazy that Vice Principal Dave Hurley has to remind them of the high school atmosphere, but warnings are soon forgotten in the sea of Creek Crazy madness. "We, the Creek Crazies, can beat anyone, at any game, with our pure craziness," Soria said. "Yes, we cordially invite anyone to come and try to be crazier than us," Ferroni added. With the help of the Creek Crazies, not to mention a basketball squad with more talent than Bear Creek has ever seen, the team has achieved a first place rank in the league and the players have nothing but thanks to give to their fans. "Creek Crazies are off the hook," senior basketball player Myron Jordan said. "They have stuck with us through winning and losing." The Creek Crazies have not stopped at only helping the team. Crowds for the games have been growing ever since the beginning of the Crazies. The future of the club depends on its predecessors but according to the club leaders, they will be around for a while.
