Bruin Voice staff

Adviser
Kathi Duffel
Mrs. Duffel has been the adviser for Bear Creek's newspaper for many years. She has seen the paper become better and better over the years. Last November and this April, The Bruin Voice has been ranked #1 in the nation. She is very proud of her journalism students and takes them places for national journalism conventions--they really appreciate that.

Editor in Chief
Dusty Schaller
Dusty has been on the newspaper staff all four years of high school, but he's not going to major in journalism. He's been to every national convention the paper has attended and has been instrumental to the success of the newspaper. Dusty is the layout expert. He has nice hair.

Copy Editor/Online Editor
Christie Sudweeks
Christie has been on the staff since her sophomore year. Mrs. Duffel isn't too sure who is going to fill her copy-editing shoes once she graduates in June. Newspaper is one of Christie's favorite classes and she's going to miss it when she's at BYU. Christie can fall asleep anywhere, including on the floor, on people's shoulders, and on desks.

Entertainment Editor
Les Tibangin
This is Les' first year as entertainment editor and he's doing a good job. He is not as into clipart as Sabrina is. Les writes a column for every issue of the paper. For those who have read his February column, know this: someone called during sixth period newspaper, asking if she could meet Les. It was quite funny.

In-depth Editor
Nick Mah
Nick Mah is the only person on the Bruin Voice staff who everyone calls by his full name--Nick Mah. Nick Mah creates really good infographics and does a good job laying out the In-depth page, also. His parents give him lots of food to eat at layout, and sometimes he shares.

Feature Editor
Sabrina Chu
Sabrina is the clipart crazy one on the staff. She's been on the staff for two years and is getting better with each layout. Sabrina is our "double truck" expert. (For you non-journalists, that's when the two pages in the middle of the paper are laid out like one, without a margin in the middle.) Sabrina gets excited about things easily and she's fun to be around.

News Editor
Theresa Louis
This is Theresa's first year on the newspaper staff and already she's an editor. (That means she has talent.) As News Editor, Theresa has to layout both the front page and page two of the paper. She comes up with some pretty good layout ideas. One of her best ideas involved fading a picture into a headline. (You'd have to see the print version to know that it's good.)

Opinion Editor
Elizabeth Doisy
Elizabeth is editor of what has notoriously been the "easy" page to layout (design hasn't changed much for what, two, three years?). But she still does an AWESOME job. She has a cool "Letter to the Editor" graphic that she would use more often if we got more letters to the editor! (hint hint, write us some letters to the editor!) Elizabeth is multi-talented; she's also an editor for the school literary magazine. You can see her "prom date" here.

Sports Editor
Jon Mangrum
Jon writes a column for the sports page every issue. His most famous column is one in which compared cheerleaders to porn stars. (The principal and cheerleaders' parents were not amused, but many others were.) Jon's other pasttimes (besides insulting cheerleaders) include playing Indiana Jones on the newspaper computers, talking to people, and running.

Advertising Manager
Kaylene Aso
Kaylene calls people and asks them to buy ads from us so we can afford to print our paper. This is not an easy task, because people don't want to buy ads from us even though we are #1 in the nation. (hint hint, buy ads) We love Kaylene because she sells ads for us so we don't have to.

Assistant Ad Manager
Jon Broddrick
Jon helps Kaylene sell ads. This is important, because if we don't sell enough ads, then Mrs. Duffel tells us we each have to bring in an ad by a certain date or we don't get an A in the class. So we love Jon also for selling ads.

Production Manager
Megan Welton
Megan works on the computer named "Megan sits here" to make the ads that Kaylene and Jon sell pretty so the ad-buyers will be happy with our work and buy more ads from us in the future. Megan has been on the newspaper staff two years. She likes talking to Dusty and going to Disneyland.

Artist
Januel Mercado
Januel does all the art featured in The Bruin Voice, some of which you can see on this site. He's an excellent artist and it's nice to have an official "Artist" on the staff, because two years ago, we didn't, and we had to find different people each issue who were willing to draw for us.

Photography Editor
Erin Masuoka
Erin is in charge of taking photos for each issue of the newspaper. We love Erin because it's a lot easier for writers to concentrate on researching and writing when they don't have to worry about taking pictures. She's very good at what she does. Erin is fun to talk to and is very involved with student government, so she knows what's going on that needs to be photographed.

Photographer
Randy Bramblett
Randy takes pictures when Erin can't. And he takes the pictures Erin doesn't want to take. But they have to get taken by somebody, and we greatly appreciate Randy for doing it.

Computer Specialist
Scott Christensen
Scott answers questions we have for him while we're laying out, such as how Chinese and Japanese people type on keyboards and how to get Web sites in Spanish to be translated into English. Maybe one of these days he'll fix the spell-checker on "Katy's 'Puter." (Maybe he can even re-name that computer, since Katy has been at BYU for almost a year now. I do not think she works on that computer any more.) We can hope.

Staff Writers
David Barrientos, Holly Bun, J.D. Fox, Meagan Hamby, Shani Hilton, Scott Jenkins, Eric Mah, Chris Tsang, Gerald Williams, and Natalie Withers.
We love staff writers because they:
1. Write stories the editors don't want to write
2. Fill up space on pages, meaning the editors don't have to write as much
3. Count and stuff newspapers, so the editors don't have to.
Hey, it's a thankless job, but someone's got to do it!
