GameCube

The Gamecube comes from a long line of computer consoles, back dating all the way to the 1980's. Originally to start off with was the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). This was most likely the best console released for it's time of day and had gamers wanting one from the day it was released. The 8-bit machine was the home to arguably the most influential platform game character ever. Mario was a plumber whose task was to save the princess from a castle infested with strange enemies. The cartoon style characters and plot of the game made this console very fun to play. It wasn't until the early 1990's when Nintendo decided to release a 16 bit super console known as the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). Being the most powerful console available on the market, as well as a great selection of games including a new and improved Mario game, made this console sell very fast. The increased cartoon effects and graphics and sound made this console wanted more and more. A while after the Playstation was released, sales of the SNES began to plummet, as the gaming had moved on to the Playstation (courtesy of Sony). It was that point that Nintendo decided to release their new console. A 64-bit console known as the Nintendo 64. The new design of the console allowed four ports for multiplayer action on arguably one of the best first person shooter games ever, Goldeneye. This attracted hundreds and thousands of gamers to the console, but it was still no match for the mighty Playstation. After a long break and a couple of years after the release of the great Playstation 2, came the Gamecube. A 433mhz console, which used small CD's to run games from instead of the old fashioned cartridges. The quality of game play from this console was and still is, unbelievable. I never quite knew how far games had come from, but when I saw it, I was amazed. It is currently out in the market at the moment and is competing at the highest level, along with the Playstation 2 and the X-box.
