WALKER, Sarah
- Born: 5 Jan 1845, Sawbridgeworth Herts
General Notes:
Notes for SARAH E. WALKER: 1851 England Census- Sarah, 6, was at Bulls, off High Wych Rd., Sawbridgeworth with her parents, Benjamin and Ann Walker.
1861 UK Census- Sarah Walker, 16, was a general servant for the William Bull family at 8 Park Place in the hamlet of Mile End Old Town East, Stepney Tower Hamlets, Middlesex, England. This appears to be Benjamin and Ann's daughter.
Sarah remained in England. It is not known if she married. In some correspondence with a great niece there were the names of "Crack & Todd" mentioned. Source- Mary Ann Walker Sinclair's Family Record. A Charles Todd was found in the 1881 and 1901 Census, Metropolitan Asylum Leavesden, Watford District. Also a George Crock was in the same asylum as Charles Todd in 1901. These may be the people referred to in Sarah's letters sent to Canada. Research has found that Sarah's niece, Emily 1831 Walker's daughter, Mary Ann, married a George Crack, so this may be the Crack name in her letter.
1871 England Census- A Sarah born 1845, was an Inmate at Watford Workhouse, Watford, Hertfordshire. The birth location is not correct, but I believe this may be Sarah. There is no BMD record of a Sarah born in Watford or any sign of a Sarah Walker other than this Sarah in the 1851 or 1861 census.
Not able to be found in 1881or 1891.
1901 England Census- Sarah, 57, born Sawbridgeworth, was at the Hertfordshire County Lunatic Asylum, Hill End, in the Parish of St. Peter, St. Albans District. Sarah was single.
Death Record- Sarah Walker, 68, at Watford District Quarter 2 1913 3a/767.
