If the way is not labeled at this crossroad- and in life our ways are not labeled- then when we come to a crossroad, there is an uncertainty and a suspense and, with that, an opportunity. In this book, Ken Wilber begins just such an attempt with a concise presentation of his integral vision- a quest for a holistic approach that, he says, invites us to be a little more whole, a little less fragmented, in our work, in our lives, and our destiny.

Javanese Ethics and worldview, the Javanese idea of the good life, Franz Magnis-Suseno

The book explains the fundamental principles of Javanese communication, the underlying worldview, and the general co-ordinates of Javanese moral conviction.

The following concerning the background and the Dimensions of the Javanese worldview is composed by a Modjokuto Javanese, who is actually something of a santri mystic too.

Politeness in outward behavior,

Although complex, is easy to learn

If only you wish to

Because it is both audible and visible,

If you inspect it carefully and in detail, over and over again,

You will be able in a short time

To do the polite thing

From the point of view of good form and customary behavior.

Wherever you may live,

You will be able to mix with everyone.

The contrasting task, ordering the inner life, is much more difficult:

Now as far as for ordering the inner life,

This is not something everybody knows about.

It is very, very difficult.

One feels even more uneasy

When one tries to know the order of the inner life.

Because it is invisible,

Even more then fine powder is.

One might say that it is inexplicable, or that it is unclear.

So if you are not very thorough in searching for it

You certainly will not find it.

If you do, you reach the stage of mystical experience meaning:

Whoever knows the politeness of inner life

Knows also the true nobility

Shows the true signs of High character

He/she will be able to care for his/her spiritual castle,

Indeed a glorious place,

Which is never further from him/her than his/her beard, (chuckle)

And which will be shielded with but a curtain of light.

Lo! Such are the teachings of extra-ordinary WOmen.

It is fitting that you should follow their advice.
