Michael in Corus 2005

Adams finishing sixth with 7 points.

Leko won the event with 8.5 pts. Solid tournament for Mickey, winning key games against Topalov (scoring against the Najdorf) and Morozevitch ( having a bad tournament) .Mickey lost against Anand with Black after Vishy played a great prepared Exchange Sac in the West-Indian Defense. Would have been a terrific tournament without this loss. Anand finishing second. a good Corus 05

July 2004

Michael Adams is playing right now in Lybia for the FIDE World Chess Championship. He beat Hamdouchi,Nakamura and Akopian and leads Radjabov 1-0 in semi-finals.

He is likely to go through the finals against maybe Topalov , who is facing Kazhimdanov.

Adams lost against Akopian in 1999 in Las Vegas, but this time he defeated him with style and he seems closer than ever to the world title ! UPDATE: Adams looses against Kazhimdanov in the finals. His opponent managed to find counterplay in difficult positions, and won the rapid match.

FINAL RESULTS

Michael wins against van Wely in Round 10, and with a +2 score, he moves closer to the top 3 towards the end..

Unfortunately, an unexpected defeat against the talented but still not too experienced Fedorov stops his way to the top ( Round 11). It is clear that Michael played for the win since he went for the main line of the Dragon instead of 3 Fb5+. He overlooked the strong ..Bh6!! move and eventually lost.

After another fine win, Adams ends his tournament with a draw against the tournament winner Kasparov with the black pieces (round 13)

He finishes with 7.5/13, which is still an outstanding result, confirming he is at least amongst the 6 or 7 strongest players of 2001.
