Class Schedule 2002

Due to the popularity of our free gardening classes, we are expanding the series to include Basic Landscape Design and Propagation. The classes take place 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Nate's, our garden deli just north of the nursery. Please join us on a Saturday morning for a free cup of coffee or tea and an enjoyable lesson on gardening. Breakfast or lunch can be purchased at the deli.

  • February 2, Hydroponics: Learn how to grow plants year-round, indoors or out, in different growing mediums.

  • March 2, Ponds, Plants and Fish: Create your own backyard eco-system with ponds, plants and fish. This comprehensive class covers building ponds, selecting and using bog and oxygenating plants, and carrying for a wide variety of fish.

  • April 6, Gardening 10: Just in time for spring planting, learn the basics of gardening including soil preparation, plant selection, feeding, pest control and pruning. Class includes organic and chemical options.

  • May 4, Cottage Gardening and Perennials: This year we are combining two popular classes. In addition to learning how to create a charming English Cottage garden for your own yard, you will learn how to select and care for perennials used in flower gardening.

  • June 1, Propagation: Learn the basic techniques of propagating plants.

  • July 6, Bonsai: Create an area of tranquility for your home or garden with Bonsai. This detailed class includes use of varied plant materials, soil mediums, pots and statuary.

  • August 3, Organic Gardening: Protect the butterflies, birds and beneficial insects that live in your yard by learning the basics of organic gardening. This class addresses the organic compounds and combinations that you can use instead of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides.

  • September 14, Hanging Baskets: We are repeating this popular "hands-on" class. Make a hanging color basket to take home for your porch or patio. A small fee will be charged for materials.

  • October 5, Fragrant Plants in the Landscape: Learn how to use fragrant plants in both your home and yard. This class will address fragrant moonlight gardens, incorporating fragrant plants into the landscape and using fragrant plants indoor during the colder months.

  • November 2, Pruning: Learn how to prune roses, fruit trees, perennials and landscaping plants.

  • December 7, Roses: Rose care has become easier, and roses more hardy. Learn how to select and care for antique and modern roses.
