Base Captures Championship

Adding a major championship to his list of titles, Scott B. exercised his demons from the 1994 event by holing a sliding par putt on the 36th hole to win the 2001 Club Championship by one stroke. Foxfire Golf Club played host to its third CMGC Championship, but the anticipated hot, dry July failed to lengthen anyone's drives as Mother Nature nearly closed the course for round two. Coordination and good communication resulted in only a five hour delay. Several players had a shot at the title, but it was the clutch pars on the closing two holes that kept Scott ahead of Jeff (-1) and Vince (-2). Congratulations Base!

Five bucks baby, yeah!In other tournament news, the Ping team of Vince and Jeff captured their third (at least) straight Manufacturers' Championship over the Titleist team of Tom and John. Five bucks baby, yeah! On the flip side, Steve brought the agony of defeat to life after posting a traumatic 36th hole score. To ease the pain, he emptied his bag of palotas by lofting ten straight perfect wedge shots into the pond on 18.

The 2001 Championship Banquet at Buca di Beppo was a resounding success. The Pope's table was everything it was promised. The steady flow of groups parading past our table provided an opportunity to raise a glass and sing out a wide variety of pseudo-Italian cheers. Jillians and the fabulous Columbus skyline provided the post feast entertainment. Good times were enjoyed by all, to say the least.

Thanks to Handicap Chairman Jeff for assembling the Handicap Indices and Course Handicaps for the White Tees at Foxfire.
