Scott Snaps Four Year Drought

Scott K. overcame his own doubt and concern over the course selection to post a winning score of 141 in the 2002 CMGC Club Championship. This year's lead pack was tighter than ever with five players within six strokes of Tom's overnight leading score of 67. On course interviews with Tom and second place John mid way through the final round suggested a huge lead by Scott, but it turned out to be a very tight race. The Championship came down to the 36th hole where anyone in the lead group could have won. John and Tom applied pressure by both parring the final hole, but despite chucking his drive into a pine tree Scott held it together and won by one stroke. Congratulations on his third major Championship.

Buca di Beppo hosted its second straight Championship BanquetGetting our fill at Buca di BeppoBuca di Beppo was well attended and deemed a success, although our waiter may not have accurately assessed our group's ability to eat. The post-feast moved upstairs to the patio of the Frog, Bear and Wild Boar Bar where the mating rituals of DeSales Homecoming debutants could be better observed. Balmy weather, good company, constant entertainment and $1 longnecks made for a relaxing end to the evening.

A Prelude to the Handicap Witch Hunt. The narrow margin of victory gives everyone a chance to clearly see where and how they could have won the tournament. A stubbed pitch here, a missed 2 foot putt there, everyone can find at least a few strokes they could have saved. Personally, I could have saved dozens of strokes, especially on my second nine score of 55. Seriously though, even if my 55 were 45, I didn't play well enough to win. I urge each of you, especially those who worry the the Handicap System somehow cheats you, to examine your own performance and decide if you played well enough relative to your ability to win the Championship. Stay tuned for additional analysis.

Blacklick is set to host the 2002 CMGC Club Championship September 28th and 29th. The championship course was redesigned during a year-long closure a few seasons ago to better fit our needs. Blacklick stretches to 6319 from the white tees with a rating of 69.6/119. Most are familiar with Blacklick's quirky tee time policy: prospects must show up at 6:00 am to put their name on a list. Names drawn from this list are alternated with phone calls beginning at 7:00 am. Each name or phone caller can make two times. That's tough when we need three consecutive times. Thanks to Steve and Vince, we got what we need. The 2002 Club Championship tees off both Saturday and Sunday at 9:12 am.

We will return to Buca di Beppo following the success of last year's Championship Banquet. Who could forget the knowing glare of the Pope, the awesome accoustics of the room or the giant rotating lazy susan? Reservations have been securred at the Arena District Buca di Beppo under the Columbus Metro Golf Club for 5:00 pm Saturday evening.

Only a small number of members have completed the Cabin Classic form at right. Please take a minute to review your schedule, then rank the dates and add your ideas for a location. In case you changed your mind, new forms received from individuals who have already voted will supercede their previous vote. Thanks.

One last thing. This photo from the 2002 Lobsterfest was finally developed and printed. Enjoy!
