Richard Jenks Claims 3rd Championship in October Heat Wave

RJ captured his third CMGC Club Championship with 36 holes of solid golf and unflinching stamina beneath a blistering October heat wave that wilted most of the field. Carding rounds of net 69 and 72 put Richard eleven strokes in front of second place Vince Resor. The 2007 CMGC Club Championship was rescheduled twice and eventually landed on October 6-7 at Darby Creek near Marysville, Ohio. Highs in the 90s (Sunday was a record high for October 7th) with soggy batwing humidity added a dimension not usually found for this event. More than one player said "I'm totally out of gas."

1. Richard Jenks (19), 69+72=141
2. Vince Resor (14), 71+81=152
3. Tom Kirk (16), 75+82=157
4. Jeff McCorkle (10), 83+77=160
5. Ed Hawley (30), 68+70 (MaTER)
6. Scott Kern (16), 78-WD
7. John Kempton (12), 80-WD
8. Steve Hawley (8), WD
Darby Creek was a popular course choice and coupons found by Jeff kept it affordable. It's a big course with lots of gorse waiting to swallow up errant shots. The Darby Special fried balogna sandwich with pepper jack and grilled onions was also a hit. Rangers with wate jugs did their best to get around the course to ward off heat stroke. Despite running out of gas, not a single CMGC member suffered any serious health failure, although two dropped out after the first round.
