Records fell as Richard cruised to a commanding 10 stroke victory in the 2000 Lobsterfest. The highlights were numerous and punctuated by Richard's new CMGC record for low round in a tournament of net 61. Even though Scott B. was the overnight leader, Jeff was Richard's nearest competitor drawing to within 7 strokes with five holes to play. Jeff said of Richard's play, "he was on autopilot."
The course was supposed to be part of the story. Deer Creek stretches to over 6600 yards from the Lobsterfest tees and worried some competitors. At the end of the weekend however, the long hitters were near the end of the leader board. Concensus long drive champ John finished well back. Vince had his driver working well but still finished dead last. By contrast, Scott K. fired a final round net 64 and was the leader in the clubhouse for nearly 40 minutes. Despite a new club record 29 strokes with his driver, Scott took the length out of play and tamed Deer Creek.
Of all the CMGC tournaments, the Lobsterfest is held in the highest regard. Sporting the longest history of any tournament, the Lobsterfest embodies the combination of social and competitive functions on which the CMGC was founded. The Lobsterfest is both the best attended tournament and the best attended social gathering on the CMGC Tour. The first Lobsterfest of the new millenium carried on this great tradition.
The tournament within a tournament where Vince and Jeff playing Ping irons took on Tom and John playing Titleist irons was 3/4ths interesting. It is safe to say that if it were 4/4ths interesting, Ping would have come out on top. Sadly however, that was not the case. A close inspection of the final standings will reveal the outcome. One crisp (actually soiled) fiver was paid to the Titleist Team at the end of the round.
Thanks to John and Rick for co-hosting the 2000 Feast. The event went off without a hitch. Click here for a complete report on the 2000 Lobsterfest expenses.

Plans were changed
While Valley View was the first choice of the Lobsterfest Committee, the management at that Lancaster course was unable to accomodate our tee time needs. Consequently, the new site of the 2000 Lobsterfest is Deer Creek. Saturday tee times begin at 9:04 am; Sunday tee times begin at 9:44 am.
According to Play18.com, Deer Creek was built in 1982 and designed by Jack Kidwell. This Flat,18 hole, Public course features many trees, doglegs, and bunkers. Golfers will face open fairways that feature Blue Grass turf and putting greens that feature Bentgrass turf. Weekday, non-discounted green fees are $16.00, and Weekend fees are $19.00. Cart fees are $11.50, and walking is allowed. Other amenities at the golf course include a driving range, food and beverages are served at this course. This course accepts Mastercard, Visa, and tee times are taken 7 days in advance.
Lobster Cam!

Thanks to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine in Orono for this new feature. This image is updated every two minutes from a real lobster trap 60 feet underwater. Since this is a live image, the picture is dark at night.

LOBSTER UPDATE: 45 pounds of Canada's freshest, liveliest lobster left Muscodobit Head on Thursday morning. The will travel by truck to Halifax, NS, where they will board a jet bound for Columbus. They are looking forward to seeing you Saturday night. The cost beat inflation again for the 9th year in a row, coming in at $15 pp.
What can I say, I'm the Editor! This photo is from the inagural Lobsterfest back in 1992. We've come a long way.
