The 2005 Summer Heat swapped dates with the traditional June tournament to accomodate our increasingly diverse schedules and so that The Golf Club of Dublin can host the event. This upscale course is designed with the spirit of golf from the British Isles and will leave you thinking that you have just played Turnberry or Carnoustie to name a few. As you play the Golf Club of Dublin you will notice the rectangular tee boxes, eighteen hundred feet of hand stacked stone walls from the Irish countryside, over seventy hand stacked sod wall bunkers positioned precariously throughout the course and seventeen holes with water. In the tradition of great courses like St. Andrews and Willow Run, each hole at GCoD has a name. My favorite is 13: Roon the Ben. The course stretches to nearly 6400 yards from the Original Tees and should be a stern test of golf despite the wide fairways and huge greens.
The past several Summer Heats have fizzled in cool, breezy weather that earned this tournament the nickname Summer Breeze. Not so for 2005. The midweek forecast shows a high of 88 and WTVN weather freak Pat Pegano is calling for 92. Now that's more like it. They say "it's not nice to fool Mother Nature" and hopefully moving the Summer Heat from the traditional month of July to June 25th won't incur her wrath at other events, say like in Myrtle Beach. Keep your fingers crossed.
And from our CMGC Official Oddsmaker, the line on the 2005 Summer Heat:
JM, 11, 5-2, really playing well as of late, 6 of 7 counters with a couple of 36's in his last 2 rounds
TK, 14, 3-1, also been playing well as of late, always solid from tee to green, if he makes a few putts look out
RJ, 18, 5-1, hard to look past the 18 strokes he's getting; if he stays focused he'll be near the top
JK, 14, 6-1, hard to believe I know, but handicap is up and the course is right up his alley...wide open
SH, 10, 6-1, never count him out even with a bad back and not playing as much; for example: Lobsterfest
SB, 15, 8-1, had a rough start to 2005 but he's definitely starting to turn things around (must be the new pull cart)
VR, 17, 12-1, another back ailment plus inconsistant play as of late but hits his driver long and straight down the tubes. If he can avoid the big number, he'll be a player
SK, 16, 15-1, he has the game but with baseball and vacation all summer he hasn't had the time to play as much as he'd have liked
