    McCorkle Beats The Heat
Mother Nature provided the 1999 Summer Heat with the hottest day in 13 years. As the mercury was topping 100 degrees, Jeff was keeping his cool. Since Valley View accomodated our limited field of 5 by permitting us to play as a fivesome, everyone had a front row seat to the drama. Jeff held a 3 stroke lead after blistering the front 9 with a net 32. The drama began to unfold on the back as Richard posted a net eagle on 10 to pull within 1 of the lead. Jeff, Vince and Scott K. were all within one stroke by 15. Net birdies by Jeff and Scott put them atop the leader board on the 17th tee, but the lead evaporated on the difficult water hole. By the final tee, Vince and Jeff were tied at -2. Vince's shot to the 200 yard finishing par 3 flew pin high, but caught the right side of a mound right of the green and ended behind a shrub. Jeff's shot flew on the same line, but drew perfectly to the right edge of the green and finished 18 feet from the pin. Vince failed to get up and down from under the shrub and Jeff's two putt par clinched the victory. Scott pulled into second with a net 3. Congratulations to Jeff for his second victory of the 1999 season.

Deer Creek is out and Valley View is in as the site of the 1999 Summer Heat. The one day tournament will be contested on July 31st. This will be Valley View's first time hosting a CMGC tournament. Send an e-mail to our Tournament Director if you have any input for this event.

Since Valley View sports a 117 Slope Rating, two members will receive an additional stroke on their Course Handicaps. The USGA Handicap Calculator was used by our Handicap Committee Chairman to determine Course Handicaps.
