The Original Myrtle Beach Trip: 1991

Thanks to CMGC Secretary Scott K., photographic evidence of the ancestral Myrtle Beach trip in 1991 survived to the Information Age and made it onto the internet. Please feel free to contribute memories, stories, observations, etc. as the webmaster's memory has dimmed somewhat over the years. Thanks in advance for your contributions.

Scott K. claims responsibility for goading Base into the shotBeing a golf trip, the story starts on the course. Our deal with Mother Nature had not been finalized yet and consequently we had snow, drizzle and other maladies to contend with. There was however, some decent weather as evidenced by this shot of Scott B. pumping one out of fairway lake. Would you still make that shot Base?

John K. sporting scarlet & graySome things have changed a lot since 1991. The popularity of Myrtle Beach 1991 spawned a steady increase of new participants, new courses, new clothes, new styles and new clubs. Yes, that's John K. sporting a scarlet and gray outfit with a visor. We're proud of you John. On the other hand, this picture shows him in the sand, a position we are all still quite familiar with today.

I would like to think that shot drew right in toward the pinThe high tech photo equipment of the day caught Vid's club in mid swingHere are some other things that haven't changed over the years. Scott K. in the middle of the fairway. Scott has an uncanny knack for finding the short grass and working some magic shot with a long wood over a deep bunker to a tight pin placement. Vince in a lake off the tee is still a pretty common sight after all these years. The lake on the right may have become the lake on the left, but the ball's still wet.

Yes, that's Pete RoseTwo of the traditions that have endured are the obligatory hot tub and the dependence on Memories ring out loud from the Surfside Taco BellTaco Bell for sustinence. Here's some evidence of the roots of those traditions. And yes, that is Pete Rose and his kid in the hot tub between Base and Vince. Notice the euchre cards on the cooler lid? The lid served as the card table back in those days. The more things change, the more they remain the same.
