MB2K is Friday, 2/25 through Monday 2/28; plan to arrive on the 24th...

As the Editor, Webmaster and Club President, I think I speak for the entire group in extending a sincere THANK YOU to our Myrtle Beach Chairman. Jeff's thoroughness in preparation, steadfast avoidance of Do-The-Least-You-Can-Do, and consistently good humor in the face of potential criticism deserve our complete gratitude. Speaking from personal experience, this is a job nobody wants to do, and arguably a job nobody could do better. Congratulations on an outstanding MB2K!

The Pearl WestThe CMGC's oldest event, The Roommates Trounament was captured by Vince and Jeff at The Pearl West. Narrowly edging John and Tom, the winning score was three under 69 in this better ball tournament. Highlights included Jeff's chip-in for par from the fringe on 12 and Vince's par putt from 10 feed on 18. The Pearl West was unanimously praised for its beauty and balance and made the Top 5 List of several members.

MoorlandTom and Brian T. won the Everyone Is A Diamond better ball at Moorland. This is the CMGC's second event at this Pete Dye course. How can you help but to play well after warming up amid the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the vast practice area. Several teams were in the running through the first nine holes, but excellent, consistent play by Tom and Brian and a stumble on #18 by the team of Jeff and Bob kept them on top.

Heather GlenThe team of Scott K., Brian T., and Phil won the Three Man with a combined better ball score of 67 at Heather Glen. Amusingly, the supposed "favorite" team of Vince, John and Richard finished a distant last. The complex scoring of this event took nearly an hour to sort out and kept the entire field (except the "favorites") wondering until then math was final. Heather Glen is in Golf Magazine's Top 50 Public Courses and was a beautiful place to win.

Diamond BackVince captured the newest event by shooting a net 65 in the Individual Tournament at Diamondback. Richard, Vince and Jeff were all close at the turn with the latter two shooting 39s, but the final margin of victory was four strokes. The traditional closing round of the overall tournament was replaced this year by the Individual Tournament to better keep the attention of the entire field. Despite the intentions, the field was reduced to 9 by the early departure of some contestants. Mother Nature cooperated for the only early round of the event by providing a mild morning followed by warm, sunny skies.

Kraft HouseKraft House met with mixed reviews. Some loved it; some were underwhelmed. Despite the lack of maid service, toilet paper and modern luxuries, the concept of a house was a huge success.

Sunny skiesWe all owe Mother Nature a big toast for Her cooperation and good will. I'm sure She would appreciate a wink next time you see Her.

The MB2K rooming assignments were made with an equally scientific, but less documented procedure. In review, the Roommates' Tournament is our oldest and most cherished Myrtle Beach event. If anyone can reconstruct a list of past winners, please send them to the webmaster. Good luck.

Last but not least, the Tournament and Fee Structure has been established. Here are the details:

After a little work with your calculator, you'll see that Mr. Kern will be looking for $42 (including your $10 2000 CMGC Dues) before you tee off on Friday. He takes cash only, so be prepared.

So you'll always know where to find them, here is my Kraft Cottage photo gallery:

The Pearl WestIn 1988, Golf Digest nominated the West Course as the "Best New Public Course." The clubhouse is also sensational with spectacular views of Dan Maples' impressive design. Pearl's West Course is links-style with lots of open stretches complimented by thick displays of pampas greens. The awesome 18th hole features a dramatic finish along the bluffs overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Attention to detail and meticulous grooming characterizes the course which has played host to a number of major tournaments. The beauty and challenge of the course coupled with the hospitality you'll receive will bring you back again and again. The Pearl West MoorlandIn 1991, Golf Digest crowned Moorland one of the "Top Five New Public Courses in America." P.B. Dye's flair for deep bunkers, multi-level fairways and greens, and signature bulkheads have transformed this course into one of the most sensational challenges on the East Coast. Play many of the most feared holes in Myrtle Beach as well as the shortest par four guarded by "Hell's Half-Acre." Our tee time is 12:00 giving us plenty of time to psyche up.The Legends
Heather GlenThis 27-hole, 400-acre historic site masterpiece burst upon the golf scene in 1987, earning Golf Digest's"Best New Public Course in America" honors. Embraced by ancient oaks, pines, and bubbling springs, the course continues to garner major publications' accolades -- among them, Golf Digest's "Top 50 Public Courses in America" (1990), and "Places to Play - Outstanding Rating," and "#5 in South Carolina" (both Golf Digest - 1995), as well as golfers' enthusiastic return. Enhancing the old-world tradition, the 18th century clubhouse features an authentic Scottish pub. Heather Glen Diamond BackDiamond Back's "venom" will burn through you as no golf course ever has. This new Russell Breeden design is surrounded by acres of unspoiled, natural wetlands and forests inhabited by creatures covered in fur and feathers. The course features Jensen Tiftdwarf greens. Coiled and ready to strike, in September of 1999. This course is sure to become a high surcharge course. Bring Jeff a beer for talking them into giving it to us for free! Victim or Victor? Find out soon. Diamond Back
