June marked what may be the final CMGC Bachelor Open. Jill and Tom Kirk got married in Kauai and it was our duty to send him into married life with a proper bachelor party, at least for a bunch of old guys. That meant a round of golf, shots of Gentleman Jack, the finest pulled pork barbecue any of us had ever tasted, and of course a Six Pack Open.
The CMGC Six Pack Open is a tried and true format where there is a six pack for every contestant. The winner gets to choose first, second gets to choose second and so on. The last place finisher usually gets some bad beer. Some years much so than others. I remember "enjoying" a six pack of Dawg Pound many years ago. Scott Kern fired the lowest score at 85 which handily won the event at net 68 and earned him first choice: Corona Light. Tom Kirk finished second at 71 and it goes rapidly down hill from there. The final group vied for last with stellar scores of net 79, 79, 80 and 81.
We retired to Tom's deck where the pulled pork had been slowly cooking since early that morning. Yes, it is a little odd that the Bachelor was also the host and cook, but he wanted it that way. Knowing his prowess on the grill, we did too.
