Benedicamus Domino
|
Procedenti puero Sine viri semine Sine viri copia In hoc festo determino |
There comes forth a boy,
Without the seed of a man
Without the help of a man,
At this feast we say,
|
Ave Maria
|
Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae, Maria dixit: Ecce ancilla Domini; Et verbum caro factum est Ave, Maria, gratia plena, Sancta Maria, mater Dei, |
The angel of the Lord announced to Mary,
Mary said: Behold the maidservant of the Lord;
And the word was made flesh
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
Holy Mary, mother of God,
|
There Is No Rose
There is no rose of such virtue
as is the rose that bore Jesu,
Alleluia.
For in this rose contained was
Heaven and earth in little space,
Res miranda.
By that rose we may well see
there be one God in persons three,
Pares forma.
The angels sang the shepherds to:
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gaudeamus.
Leave we all this worldly mirth
and follow we this joyful birth,
Transeamus.
The Boar's Head Carol
The boar's head in hand bear I,
Bedecked with bays and rosemary;
And I pray you, my masters, be merry,
Quot estis in convivio:
Caput apri defero,
Reddens laudes Domino.
The boar's head, as I understand,
Is the rarest dish in all this land,
Which thus bedecked with a gay garland,
Let us servire cantico:
Our steward hath provided this,
In honor of the King of bliss,
Which on this day to be served is,

Allon, gay bergeres
|
Allon, gay bergeres, Allon, allon, voir le Roy, De ce flagolet que j'ay, tant gay. Ho, ho paix-la! Je le voy; Allon, gay Bergeres, |
Come, gay shepherds, Come to see the King Of this flute of mine, so gay. Ho, ho, quiet now! I see him; Come, gay shepherds, |
Make We Joy Now In This Fest
Make we joy now in this fest,
In quo Christus natus est.
Eya.
A Patre Unigenitus,
Is through a maiden come to us:
Sing we of Him and say `Welcome,
Veni redemptor gencium.'
Agnoscat omne seculum,
A bright star made three kings to come,
Him for to seek with their presents,
Verbum supernum prodiens.
A solis ortus cardine,
So mighty a Lord is none as He;
And to our kind He hath Him knit,
Adam parens quod polluit.
Maria ventre concepit,
The Holy Ghost was aye her with,
Of her in Bethlem born he is,
Consors paterni luminis.
O lux beata Trinitas,
He lay between an ox and ass,
Beside His mother maiden free,
Gloria tibi Domine.
Blessed Be That Maid Marie
Blessed be that maid Marie,
Born he was of her body.
Very God ere time began,
Born in time the Son of Man.
Christus hodie
Natus est de Virgine.
Sweet and blissful was the song
Chanted of the angel throng:
Peace on earth, alleluia,
In excelsis gloria.
Fare three kings from far-off land,
Incense, gold, and myrrh in hand.
In Bethlem the babe they see
Stellae ducti lumine.
Make we merry on this fest
In quo Christus natus est.
On this child I pray you call
To assoil and save us all.
