March 2002 Log

1 Mar, Fri

• Dad, mom and myself left for Dharmasthala at 8:30 PM.
• Got no sleep in the bus.

2 Mar, Sat

• Arrived in Dharmasthala at 5AM. We'd booked a room and so went there.
• Just crashed and woke later at 7:30 AM. Had a bath and left for the temple.
• There's no rush at the temple and we have an easy darshan. It's all over in 20 minutes!
• Had breakfast and now headed for a place called Horanadu. But, the problem is there are no direct buses from Dharmasthala to there.
• Two bus rides and a jeep ride up a dusty road brings us to Horanadu at 2:30 PM. Just in time for the temple lunch :-)
• We have the darshan after the lunch. Mom later goes around buying the usual pooja stuff she keeps buying at every place we visit.
• Another jeep ride down the hill to Kalasa. But, the bus from here to Kottighehara is at 4:45 PM. We've to kill an hour in this dusty town.
• The bus finally rumbles in but, all the seats are taken :-( OK standing for another hour. By the time we arrive in Dharmasthala it's already 8:30 PM.
• Have dinner at the temple. But no sleep (all that sleeping in the buses:-)

3 Mar, Sun

• Another early wakeup. We checkout from the room at 8AM.
• A long bus ride to Subramanya.
• Nice darshan and again everything's over in minutes! Finish breakfast.
• Caught a bus to Bangalore. Nice bus (many beautiful women all around:-)
• Uneventful, but really long journey to Bangalore.
• OK I'm back at home! Lots of mail in the inbox. Monty's mail says that college opens on March 11 and not tomorrow. Yipee!!!
• The guys had visited Mallya Hospital today to look at the CT scanning and surface modelling software there.

4 Mar, Mon

• It's Sai's idea to meet again today at 10AM, to kickoff the project.
• Arrive at Amogh's place with Abhi at 10AM, but Sai's not here yet! He finally arrives at 11AM. About time dude!
• We hatch out a rough schedule, docs to be read and such things. Sai and Abhi still don't have Linux at their places, so that should be done in the next couple of days.
• Looks like we'll be using Qt (for GUI), Mesa (OpenGL library for 3D), Image Magick (image library) in our project.

5 Mar, Tue

• Finished reading Green River Rising - a story of a prison rebellion. Didn't quite like it.
• Madhu called up with an exciting idea. Madhu now assembles PCs, I begged him to take me with him the next time he goes to SP Road.

6 Mar, Wed

• Finished the insurance work for my bike - a maroon Kinetic Style. It was about time, considering that it expired in Oct 2001 ;-)
• Read Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban today, the first of the Potter series I'm reading. I know, I know it's a children's book. But, still quite engrossing, reminded me of my high school days and Enid Blyton.
• Still haven't started reading for our project. Amogh's gonna kill me if he reads this :-)

7 Mar, Thu

• Watched Crmison Tide on Star Movies. Excellent acting by Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman.
• Read Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. Good storytelling by Rowling.

8 Mar, Fri

• Abhi arrives as usual at 9:30. Today we're going to SISL. A long ride brings us to Electronics City where Amogh and Sai have already arrived.
• Our project guide in SISL, Sudarsh blasts us for not having started on the project, even though it was given almost 5 months ago. We clear up some doubts we have, and assure him that we'll get started.
• Long ride back to Amogh's place. 10 minutes rest and we're off to this guy Naresh's place.
• Another long ride to Banaswadi gets us to his place. We get some info on extracting depth from a 2D image. He explains the concept clearly to us, but doesn't see the point in implementing it.
• It's already 2 PM, and we're hungry. Ate something in a dhaba, Abhi as usual doesn't eat anything :-)
• What to do next? There's a long argument between us, standing outside the dhaba. Finally, we decide to go to Sai's place.
• Yet another dusty ride in the hot sun through smoke filled roads and we're there. Cool off and start looking into Mesa demos. Yet another schedule is planned!
• Finally, back at home at 5:30 PM. Must have travelled atleast 100 KM today!
• Watched Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls for the umpteenth time. Still enjoyable.

9 Mar, Sat

• Exchanged info on Image Magick with the guys at Amogh's place.
• Reinstalled RedHat 7.1 and screwed up Amogh's comp ;-)
• Moved to Sai's place and decided what all to learn next for the project.

10 Mar, Sun

• Woke up at 10:30!
• Today is the last day of (probably) my last college holidays. Sad to see my college life coming to an end soon :-(
• It's Sunday and there's not a single decent movie on any channel!
