Welcome to my Megaman 3 shrine!
Ah, yes, Megaman 3. The only Megaman game I actually own
for the nes. YES! I still have my nes! I know many people usually have sold theirs, but I've never sold any of the
systems I've owned. But, anywho, on to Megaman 3. Personally, I think this is the best of the original NES Megaman
games. Sure, it wouldn't be until the next one that you'd get the megabuster, but this had a lot of firsts. This was the first game
that had Rush the robodog, as well as the first game where Wily tries to cover up the fact that he's behind everything.
Oh, and it's also the first appearance of fan-favorite Protoman! And it's a HUGE game, too! Cuz after you fight all the main robot masters,
you have to fight the Doc Robots, which have the powers of all the Robot Masters from Megaman 2! Then you go for the final showdown with Breakman
(Protoman in disguise), then you go to Wily's castle and end up having to fight all the Robot Masters again. I dunno, I also think this
game has the coolest music. Anywho, now for a little bit more enlightenment, here's a description of the game:
Battle your way through a mad onslaught of crazed machinery. The Robot Masters pour on more insane weapons than you can believe! They clank, buzz, crawl, shoot, and blast from every direction. Explore every room and corridor. Climb every ladder. Dodge, slide, leap, and fire to blast your attackers or at least get away!
You start the round with 3 chances to make it through. Watch your Energy Meter at the top left corner of the screen. Your energy drains away as you take the crushing blows your foes dish out. Good thing you've got a steel noggin!
Pick up Energy Tanks, Energy Pellets, and Surprise Boxes to gain back energy and chances. When your energy runs out, you lose one chance and the round ends. If you have chances left, you'll start again.
Keep going! Destroy all the robot fiends in this level, and you'll face the diabolical Robot Master. His Energy Meter appears to the right of yours, so you can keep an eye on who's winning! If you lose all your chances, the game ends. But if you demolish the Robot Master, you gain his weapons and capture the energy crystals from his world. Then you can take on the next maniac.
But as the two near the end of the project, they find that they need several elements that can only be found on mining colonies. Unfortunately, each of these eight elements are guarded by robots who are apparently under the influence of an unknown villian. Megaman and his new pal, Rush, are dispatched to fetch the elements to complete Gamma.
As he progresses, he continuously runs into a red and grey robot with a yellow scarf and shades that insists on battling him, beginning each fight with a whistle. He calls himself Breakman and they constantly fight to a standstill, after which Breakman always leaves.
Megaman starts thinking, "Could this be the mastermind behind all these robots gaurding the elements?"
Eventually, Megaman gathers all eight of the elements. But just before he gets a chance to deliver them to Light and Wily, Breakman appears for one last showdown. "Breakman, we don't need to fight! I have the elements, now let me through!" Breakman attacked Megaman anyway, and again the two fought, and this fight was proving that Breakman was the greater of the 2 robots. Megaman had been weakened, but Breakman didn't finish him off. Instead, he teleported away yet again. Megaman just thinks to himself, "I wonder why he never finishes any of the fights. He's clearly much stronger than me."
Megaman finally gets to deliver the elements, but finds that Light is by himself. Dr. Light informs, "Megaman!
Dr. Wily tricked us! He stole Gamma and is planning on using him to take control! You must go after him!"
Megaman says, "That Wily! So he must be the mastermind behind these robots! It was just a trick to lure me away
from you guys."
Megaman eventually fights to the core of Wily's fortress and fights him. After a long, desperate battle, he defeats Gamma and Wily. However, the battle causes debris to fall from the ceiling as the huge structure breaks up, falling on both Wily and Megaman and injuring them greatly. Breakman teleports into the room and finds Wily injured. He thinks to himself, "Dr. Wily... hmmm... I'm too late. What? Megaman..." Breakman then blasts the boulder on Megaman, and takes him as he teleports away and leaves Wily behind.
When Megaman wakes up, he wonders how he got back to Light's lab.
Then he slowly starts to remember that he heard Breakman's voice. Dr. Light asks, "Megaman, are you alright? How did you get here?"
Megaman responds, "I think... Breakman saved me." Light asks, "Who? Who's Breakman." Then Breakman's whistle can be heard. Megaman
said, "That's Breakman's whistle!" Light said, "I remember that sound! That's Protoman's whistle!" Megaman aksed, "Protoman...?" Light said,
"Yes. He's your older brother, my prototype robot. He was defective from the start and wandered out on his own, ignoring his programming."
Dr. Light was right about this. Protoman's defectiveness was eventually wearing him down, until Dr. Wily found him and repaired him.
Protoman thought to himself that he owed Wily, so he worked for him, paying off his debt by slowing down Megaman. However, he
still had loyalty to his little brother, and despite having numerous chances to do so, did not finish him off. After seeing Wily badly injured,
he figured the plans were finished, and he no longer had to pay off his debt. Which is why he left Wily behind and saved Megaman.
And so, as the game draws to a close, Megaman runs through a field. When he comes to a stop, he looks up to the sky and reflects on his brother, who he never even knew existed until this day.
Well, that's my Megaman 3 shrine. Hope you've enjoyed it. Laterz.
