TheWBAndrew: Welcome to a special Monday edition of The WB Session. Today, we're coming to you live from the production offices of Roswell. Our guest today is the Executive Producer and Writer of Roswell, Mr. Jason Katims. TheWBAndrew: If you're in the main The WB Session room, it looks like no one's here but we are definitely here. The WB Session room is for listening/observing only and asking questions. We've also setup Session Numbered rooms where you and your online friends can share thoughts with each other while listening to The Session. TheWBAndrew: To submit a question to Jason if you're a Windows IE or Netscape user, you MUST go under the first menu which looks like a triangle pointing down, and select Submit Question under the Commands choice or, simply click on the Red Question Mark in the row of icons near the top. TheWBAndrew: For Mac users, click on the Red Question Mark in the row of icons. At the bottom of the screen, the prompt will change to Ask a question. TheWBAndrew: For Java users, click on ask a question on the right hand side of your screen.
TheWBAndrew: Jason has graciously taken some time out of his busy schedule today to join us. Please ask him anything about Roswell or his career and he'll do his best to answer as many of your questions as possible. TheWBAndrew: So, without further ado, welcome Jason Katims. JasonKatims: Hello everyone!
TheWBAndrew: We know you're still editing the final episodes of the season. Could you tell us how it's going? JasonKatims: It's been great.... the final 6 eps that started airing on 4/10 are all very exciting and emotional... we did well in the new timeslot on Monday... and the The WB was pleased with it's performance.
TheWBAndrew: let's take a question from the audience... Swtbrandy asks: my question is, how has working on a sci-fi/ teen drama/ forbidden love story been like? JasonKatims: Honestly, Roswell has been harder than anything I've ever worked on, the shows I've done before have been purely relationship driven. This show demands very intricate storytelling...also, the physical productions is much more challenging.
TheWBAndrew: let's take one from the e-mail bag... TheWBAndrew: Tblack@tpwwww.com asks: What is it like writing for such a talented cast? JasonKatims: A pain in the ass...=)...seriously, there's too much wonderful talent to service in every episode. Every member of the cast is worthy of being a first or second lead...looking back over the year I think we gave some good storylines to Nick Wechsler and Colin Hanks but I wish we could have done more. Sometimes it's just impossible to work everyone into every story. TheWBAndrew: that's a good problem to have JasonKatims: definitely
TheWBAndrew: Do you plan to break up Max and Liz for any length of time? JasonKatims: Break them up? No! But we do intend to throw huge obstacles at them. From the beginning the premise of the show is they fall in love, but they're different life forms. I think that's what makes it romantic and that it's not so easy for them.
Michelle Curtis: What is next on the show? JasonKatims: Tonight's episode focuses on the new character Tess. By the end of the episode, Max and the others realize why Max has been inexplicably drawn to her.
TheWBAndrew: sorry for the delay everyone...we're having a few tech glitches pksfrk: Any chance of Relativity cast members on Roswell soon? JasonKatims: Yes...David Conrad will be doing a 3 episode arc.
ddawn347: Do you visit any of the internet message boards, like FanForum to read what the fans are saying about the show? JasonKatims: I do as often as I can...but people in the office visit them all the time. It's a great way to get feedback and also to be encouraged.
CuteOne: When can we hope to see Max or Michael taking dream walks? JasonKatims: actually, Max and Michael can't dreamwalk...but Isabel will be dreamwalking again this season
Nasedo: Hi Jason hows it gone? I was wondering, we are all waiting for the WB to announce if Roswell will be renewed. What is your opinion on this personally? Do you think they will renew the show? JasonKatims: We won't know for certain until May 16th...but I personally feel encouraged. The WB has remained extremely supportive of the show.
charmedrules1: who came up with the alien idea JasonKatims: The idea is from the Roswell High books by Melinda Metz.
TheWBAndrew: let's take one from the mailbag again... TheWBAndrew: Thicket668@aol.com asks: Mr. Katims, how much of these last six episodes was planned from the start of the season? JasonKatims: The episodes airing through next week were planned from the beginning of the season... the episodes after that were not. We originally intended to end the first season with a version of Four Square which airs next week (4/24).
mel@pangea.ca asks: Would you consider still making Roswell, even if the WB doesn't pick it up? JasonKatims: hmmm.... is that an offer? JasonKatims: =) JasonKatims: Hopefully that's not a question I have to be worried about
Obsession: If the ratings for Roswell are better than other new shows, and if the show has already established a strong fanbase, why, then, is its future so uncertain? JasonKatims: Good question...and that's all I'll say.
RosJenn: Will you change the editing of the final episode if Roswell is cancelled (god forbid!!)? JasonKatims: God this is getting so depressing!...the episode will be finished before we find out whether we're picked up.
HolndPark: Are there any plans for Roswell feature films? JasonKatims: Not right now...first we have to see if we get picked up...but it's something we'd like to talk to the studio about.
HolndPark: What did you think of the ad in Variety Magazine last Monday that the folks from the Roswell Is Hot campaign took out? JasonKatims: That was truly a thrill to see! It's great to know that there are people out there that passionate about the show.
TheWBAndrew: sdow@fisci.com asks: Do the directors and producers intentionally give the show the feel of a music video to create an ethereal atmosphere? JasonKatims: I don't exactly think of it as a music video... JasonKatims: however music has become an important part of the language of our show. There's an emotional value that it brings to our stories that help make Roswell the show that it is.
ddawn347: Will Isabel and Alex have any episodes that explore their relationship more like Max, Liz, Maria & Michael have? JasonKatims: Yes...not to a huge extent this season but should we come back it's a relationship we definitely want to continue to explore.
TheWBAndrew: Jason has graciously decided to stay another 10 minutes... TheWBAndrew: let's take a few more questions... pksfrk: Will we find out the identity of Nasedo before the end of the season? JasonKatims: Yes...=)
realRoswellgirl: Where did you find Dido's Here With Me for the theme song...it is the perfect song. JasonKatims: I agree, I love the song too. Our music supervisor, Julie Houlihan, found it. TheWBAndrew: great question Realroswellgirl
ddawn347: The scene between Max and his mother in the story Toy House was very touching, but what I want to know is why do you feel it's necessary for the parents to be kept in the dark about their children? JasonKatims: Interesting question... We just feel that it's too big of a secret for them to tell her. They won't know how their parents would react.
pksfrk: Any plans for a Roswell soundtrack? JasonKatims: If the show gets renewed...we plan to do a soundtrack. Hopefully to be release in late fall.
TheWBAndrew: okay let's take a few more questions then Jason has to get back to the editing room... Roswell Hot and Spicy: Does Tess really die? JasonKatims: Is that the rumor? JasonKatims: =)
TheWBAndrew: kspeed855@cs.com asks: I really want to ask TheWBAndrew: what is going to be next if Max, Michael, and Isabel gets discovered as aliens? JasonKatims: There are others.
TheWBAndrew: Let's take one last one from the mailbag... TheWBAndrew: maddmaddi@aol.com asks: Has Roswell fulfilled your expectations during it first season? JasonKatims: It has exceeded my expectations...Obviously I can't be objective about it...but I truly feel this is a special show.. the merging of the genres along with this wonderful cast and crew we were lucky enough to put together has helped to create a show that isn't like anything else I have seen...I'm proud of the show and the work the writers, actors, and crew have done this year.
TheWBAndrew: Thanks Jason. TheWBAndrew: Thanks everyone for their questions. TheWBAndrew: We'll have a transcript up of this Session as well as last Thursday's session up on our homepage in 48 hours. TheWBAndrew: Once again, thanks...and we'll see you next Thursday 4/27. TheWBAndrew: As a reminder...Roswell is on tonight at 9pm/8c JasonKatims: Thanks everyone...bye!
