"Earth Lights"

The Creative Spirit Newsletter

February 15, 2002

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day yesterday!

This week has been super-busy (I moved from one home to another on Sunday!) and this newsletter would have been a little sparse, but thanks to two of our members' contributions we have some beautiful pictures.

Wynne has added another wonderful page to her site HERE.  This page is about gardening, so for all of you in the southern hemisphere, and those of us nearing spring here in the north, this is for you!

Blessings.........  Cheyenne

The picture above called 'Earth Lights' is from the new space station, and was contributed by Raleigh.  Many thanks for this stunning image!  You may download this picture in its full size (its large!) by left-clicking on the image above, and then right-clicking on the next one you see.

The 'Earth Lights' image is a panoramic view of the world from the new space station.  You can scroll East-West and North-South.  Canada's population is almost exclusively along the U.S. border.  Moving east to Europe, there is a high population concentration along the coast of the Mediterranean.  Check out the development of Israel compared to the rest of the Arab countries.   Note the Nile, The Outback of Australia and the Trans-Siberian Rail Route.  Moving east, most striking is the difference between North and South Korea.   It is an absolutely amazing picture of the Earth taken from the Boeing-built space station.

NASA has enormous resources available free to the public, and you can find out more about the space station HERE.  To find out the exact latitude and longitude of the space station check out THIS site.  If you would like to see the space station and want to know exactly where it is you can do so HERE.  This site has precise times and locations for anyone with a telescope and a desire to learn more about this spectacular achievement.

Michael Stadler has submitted this absolutely gorgeous prize-winning digital photo.  Congratulations Michael, and thank you, too; we need this to remind us that spring is somewhere around the corner!  You can view Michael's photo, as well as others in his album, at Club Photo's site.

Quote of the Day

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced...
Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice
