The Creative Spirit Newsletter

January 25, 2002

This week we have a couple joining The Creative Spirit, and they are known as Whitehawk.  Their website is quite extensive and has information and wonderful pictures of wolves and their Akita dogs.  You will find some fine Native quotes and spiritual wisdom at this site too.  We welcome you!

For a change of pace, in this newsletter we have some information on how you can improve the energy in your home--and feel better yourself.  Many people do not realize that what goes into their homes, in the form of TV programs, computer media, newspapers, visitors, pets, and everything they say, think, or do, contributes to an 'environment' within that home.  It will be a positive, life-supporting environment if one has been careful in their choices, but it can be extremely destructive to one's sense of well-being if the choices were poor.  This article on 'Sacred Space' is one I created for my students many years ago, and I am sharing it with you here.

Creating Sacred Space

'Sacred Space' is a term used to define any physical location that has positive energy, produces a calming influence, and is a place of rejuvenation.  Everything is made of energy.  Einstein said this, and today we are becoming more aware of that concept on a personal level.  “Everything” means all that we come in contact with including the air we breathe, our food and water, pets, plants, furniture, our homes, clothing, our friends, our activities, and our thoughts.  The substances around us which we perceive as ‘solid’ are not!  There is enormous ‘empty’ space within the molecular, atomic, and sub-atomic particles which make up the material we see and use daily.  When this space is clogged with negative energies from thoughts, words, or psychic debris, we do not feel well or happy.

All this energy is in a constant state of change, much like water moving in an ocean.  Since we are also made of energy, we are not separate, or immune, from the effects of this change and movement.  All energy has it’s own frequency, or consciousness, whether it be TV or radio waves, plants, animals, people, or the stones and landscapes of the Earth.

In our bodies we know that we do not feel the same every day.  It may depend on what we’ve eaten, how well we slept, if we had an argument with someone, the stress level at work, or the many unseen energies and thought forms which float about us every day.  A wise teacher once told me that 80% of our thoughts are not our own!  That means that we are often reacting--or even acting--to the vibrational energies and thoughts around us, from other people's minds, or accumulated energy 'waste matter' that has collected around us and in our homes.  The antidote to that problem is to be very vigilant and reassess the sudden appearance of new ideas.  If they seem strange or out of character they probably are not our own.

Our homes are also a place of many circulating and overlapping energies.  The TV spews out enormous stress from the 6 o’clock news.  Friends, relatives, and visitors bring in their own vibrations.  Computers, music, telephones, appliances, and traffic noise all contribute to the variety of energies in one’s home.  The written word has considerable energy from the author who wrote the article or book.  For this reason these things should be kept in an area away from where you sleep for there can be an overwhelming amount of energy exuding from those pages.  Used books have even more energy because they also contain the energies of the prior reader as he/she reacted to the words.  For these reasons its wise to consider what you read or what it feels like when you pick up a book from a used-book store.  Actually, this same principle applies to used clothing and antique furniture.  It may be beautiful and functional but do be aware of how it feels!  If there is any unpleasant energy attached to the item don't buy it.

Cleaning up the discordant energies in our homes is a starting point to feeling better.  Cleaning up the energies in ourselves takes longer and requires sustained effort, but the rewards are immeasurable in terms of consciousness.

Your Home's Energy

There are ley lines and power places on the surface of the Earth.  There are areas of intense positive or intense negative energy everywhere!  There are ancient burial grounds, places or worship, and human sacrifice.  Bodies of water, Redwood forests, mountain ranges, neighbors, and freeways all affect the energy in your house, either positively or negatively.  Consider all these things when choosing or building your home because living on top of a burial ground or area where human sacrifices occurred hundreds of years ago does indeed affect the energy in your home--and in you!  Many years ago I had a client who lived in a home where the previous owner had committed suicide.  Over the years she lived in that house she began to feel more and more depressed until she began to have suicidal thoughts herself.  The answer to this is usually to move out--fast!  If you know someone skilled in sending trapped souls into the Light and cleaning up the energy then you can do that of course.  The problem here is that most people do not see or understand these energies and think it is themselves who has the problem, when in fact it is the old energy which has not been cleared out.

Also consider the direction of your front door, windows and the amount of sunlight and fresh air available, square or sharp angles vs. rounded walls of the house, landscape:  trees, streams, hills, fences, driveways, etc., materials of construction (oak, asbestos, aluminum siding, straw-bale, adobe), nearby traffic, neighbors, businesses, factories, nature sounds (water, birds, animals), nature challenges such as earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunami, volcanoes.  Mountains, for example, should be behind your home, not in front of it, for they block chi (vital force) from entering the home in this front location.  All these factors have a very powerful energy effect upon your place of living--and you!  Books on Feng Shui can be of considerable help in understanding these things.

Inside Your Home:  Identifying Problem Areas

Use your intuition, your gut feeling, your sense of proportion and balance, as well as your common sense, to guide you here.  You will need to identify problem areas before you are able to correct them.

Think of the rooms in your home or apartment and determine the purpose of each.  What kind of activities go on in each room?  Is a particular place most suitable for listening to music--or to practicing it?  Where do you choose to watch TV or listen to radio?  Where do you like to read?  Where do you eat most meals and is it a relaxing place?  Is your sleep space conducive to rest and intimacy?

Television, radio, and computers bring in a lot of chaotic energy.  They have usefulness, however, so choose specific locations for these technologies.  Keep them away from bedrooms, and dining areas.  The violence and news of TV programming is extremely harmful to a peaceful environment.  Be aware of what you are watching (and reacting to!) and what it’s collective effects are on your home--and you!.

Certain pieces of music are life supporting (plants--and people--thrive) and some music is life destroying.  Excess volume is destructive, not only to ear drums, but to the essence of peace.  Music you like--often regardless of type--will make you feel better.  Music you dislike will deplete you of energy and can cause depression or anxiety.  Some music will clear a room of unwanted energies and other types will attract them.  Wind chimes are helpful in generating positive energy.  Drums with a deep sound and rhythmic beat will greatly help to dispel unwanted energy.

Pets are a wonderful source of comfort to us, and many times they feel like friends or family.  In some cases pets actually take on much of our stresses or illnesses.  One or two dogs or cats can be lovely, but if you have many animals living within the walls of your home they can be an energy drain on the people living there.  Loss of energy can lead to illness, so its good to consider where your pets will live if you choose to have several.

Appliances which generate a lot of noise such as the vacuum, blender, and power drills will scramble and fragment energies in your aura.  Since these appliances are almost a necessity these days you will need to know how to repair your energy field.  A few ways are to walk barefoot on the Earth, stand with your back against a large tree for about 20 minutes, take a dip in the ocean (it must be salt water), or breathe deeply for several minutes.  Better repair techniques are available from some natural healers.

Arguments, yelling, physical, mental, and emotional abuse all create huge amounts of bad energy (mental and emotional abuse cover things like: manipulation, power plays, laying guilt trips, withholding, silent treatment, blackmail, etc.).  Do everything in your power to avoid such situations--or get out of them!  When there has been some dissention, you must be able to re-create harmony.  If your environment is constantly being damaged by this type of behavior it is vital to leave it behind and begin anew.  The trauma one sustains in such an atmosphere is often so severe as to cause grave illness, or worse.  Know when to try for better understanding and healing...but know when to leave!

Colors are important.  Dark colors will attract lower (unpleasant) energy just as a dark roof absorbs heat more readily than a light one.  Black is not an ‘evil’ color but if you are feeling depressed it will absorb more of the same vibration from the surrounding environment.  Red brings in intensity and passion and is a difficult color to wear or live with.  It can contribute to arguments.  Light colors and white have the most positive effect on one’s environment and state of mind.

Clutter and lack of cleanliness always adversely affect the energy in the home.  Get rid of things you do not need or use.  Fresh air and sunlight are of great benefit in psychic house cleaning, too.  Having mirrors on walls in dark or energy-congested areas help to deflect and move chi, or vital force, and thus improve the energy.

Smells such as those from garbage, pets, and cigarette smoke all have a negative effect on the environment.  Toilet seats should be closed, for this is an area of elimination of toxic waste and it has an adverse energy when allowed to circulate.  Incense or sage help to counteract some of these problems.

Psychometry is a science based on the concept that all energies of former owners or inhabitants of a place will be imprinted on the object.  Thus all people who have ever lived in your home as well as the present occupants, will have an effect on the energy--your energy!  Some areas or objects are nearly impossible to clear of unwanted energy.  Building your home on a known burial ground is looking for trouble, and any house there is more likely to find it!

Diamonds are notoriously hard to clear of the greed-energy attached to them, so if you have inherited one and it doesn't feel good to you don't wear it.  An example of such heavy negative energy is that of the Hope diamond, for it was lusted after by many generations of owners.  Through all that contaminated thought-form being directed at it there developed such a degree of negativity that it is said the diamond bestows a curse on its owner.  Fortunately it is now in the Smithsonian!  (for more information on the Hope diamond, go HERE.)

What can you do to improve the energy in your home?  First, stop polluting it with unnecessary noise, TV, arguments, and unwelcome visitors.  Bring in light in the form of sunlight and lighter colors on walls, floors, fabrics and furniture.  Open the windows each day for at least 5 minutes, summer and winter, in order to get fresh oxygen and vital force (prana) into the home.  Get music CD's which assist in breaking up congested heavy energy, such as Native drums, Feng Shui sounds, mantra sounds and chants, wind chimes, Tibetan bells, cymbals.  Use rattles--if you have them--by shaking them around furniture, walls, floors, corners, etc.  Deeper-sound rattles work best.  Get a sage bundle (available at most spiritual book shops) and light it with a match.  Let the smoke (no flames!) be wafted into all areas of your home.  Do it every day until things feel better.  Use a good quality incense if you cannot find sage.  Do not use aerosol sprays.  Burn candles in each room of the house.  Glass encased candles are safest.  Choose glass colors like white, blue, purple, and green.  No red, no orange, no black!

If the energy in a home has been damaged for a prolonged time, it can take years to clear it up, even with these methods.  There are special techniques known as 'clearing' which are extremely powerful and can dispel a lot of negative energy fast, but there are few people who have these skills.  These people are often in great demand, so tend to keep a low profile.
