This week
I've tossed in a few of my natural remedies, since winter is coming in the northern
hemisphere (These remedies are not a substitute for good
medical care. Always see your physician if you have any
concerns).
Also I managed to find that great poem, 'I Shall Wear
Purple'. Hope you like it!
We have a few recent
digital photos from Ottawa, Canada.

Strong
Ginger Tea:
You need
4 c. water, 3
Tbsp. grated fresh ginger root, juice and peel of one lemon (just slice
the lemon and toss in the whole thing). Boil
the water, add ginger, lemon juice and peel, and
simmer for 30 minutes. Strain
liquid and discard the ginger and lemon peel. Keep
this hot, in a thermos, and drink throughout one day, for colds, flu, or
bronchial problems. Make a new batch for each day you need it. Drink it at the
first sign of a cold, or even after it has begun. This is a strong
drink, and will probably make you sweat, but this is part of the
cure.

Fresh
garlic is 'nature's antibiotic' and has amazing curative
properties. A great way to serve it is in a salad of course, but
also try it on grilled cheese sandwiches or in hot broth (do NOT cook it
though). Because garlic has
powerful detoxifying qualities one may occasionally feel queasy or
headachy after taking it. Unless you have a confirmed allergy to
garlic, this experience is due to Nature's housecleaning process and is a
good sign. Kyolic garlic is a processed and packaged garlic that is
just as potent as the raw version but has no after-breath. It is
available in health food stores.

Blue-Green
Algae, Barley Green, and Spirulina are excellent items for boosting
your immune system. They are all available in health food stores,
and come in capsules or powder. They give one a lot of energy and
are also very detoxifying. For this reason they should be started in
small doses and worked up to greater levels. If you take Blue-Green
Algae in sufficient amounts (say 4 to 8 caps per day) you will feel GREAT
and NEVER get sick!

Epsom
salts baths are good for purging toxins from the body. When
toxins have been reduced the cold or flu 'crisis' is minimized or even
alleviated. Adding herbs such as chaparral (in moderation) or
cinnamon also help this process. * Note: put herbs in a
cloth pouch or you will come out full of leaves!

Hot
water with fresh lemon juice and honey in the morning has the effect of
quickly reducing the toxin level in the body, thus making you feel lively
and fresh. It also reduces dark circles under the eyes.

Water:
It is said that our bodies require 8 glasses of water (not tea, coffee, or
juice) daily, just to replenish itself. The water should be very
pure (spring water, distilled, or purified). Do not use tap water
unless you live in an extremely pure environment. Drinking even
more--say 3 quarts per day--greatly helps the body release the flu and
cold-producing toxins from the body. This ensures a quick recovery,
or may even short-circuit the beginning of a cold.

I
Shall Wear Purple
When
I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me,
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And
make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You
can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats and things in boxes.
But
now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay the rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But
maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old and start to wear purple.
