Shrek Review by Rob

You know, the greatest thing about Shrek is, well, everything.  The whole film is aimed towards all ages.  From the animation and cuteness entertaining the children, to the charm and hilarity Donkey entertaining even the most boring of adults, the film has a great span of endless good points.  If you didn’t find Shrek one of the greatest films ever made you simply don’t have any taste whatsoever in my opinion.  It’s an advancement from Toy Story 2 (which in turn was an exceptional advancement from Toy Story) and is great fun for all the family.

Shrek is a big giant green ogre voiced by Mike Myers.  The fact that, even in animation, Mike Myers does a great job in helping you understand the character is a testament to the film itself.  However, Shrek is Scottish which is the only minute fault I can find in the whole film.  Donkey is a hilarious, um, donkey voiced quite brilliantly by Eddie Murphy.  Donkey seems to take over the whole show and will have you cracking up in laughter if you’ve never seen the film.  Princess is played by Cameroon Diaz which is fair enough as Princess seems like Cameroon Diaz, just with ginger hair.  Oh and shortass bad guy, Lord Farquaad is played by John Lithgow.

The story goes like this:  Shrek meets donkey.  Shrek finds out his home is taken over by fairytale characters (watch it and see how many you can spot!).  Shrek gets told to save Princess from a castle if he wants his home back.  Shrek and Donkey save Princess.  Dragon fancies Donkey.  Princess finds out Shrek is an ogre.  Shrek and Princess get fond.  Shrek and Donkey become good friends.  Shrek and Princess have misunderstand and fall out.  Princess goes to marry the Lord.  Shrek, Donkey, and a dragon save the Princess and Shrek and Princess get it on.  Shrek and  Princess kiss and she becomes an ogre permanently.  Ta da.  Your traditional fairytale.  Well, not really.

The fact that it isn’t your traditional fairytale probably makes this film more interesting than any other.  I was convinced all throughout, due to previous childhood memories of stories, that Shrek would turn into a human when they kiss, but he didn’t.  It’s a great film.  One of the best.  Probably the best animation in my opinion.  Go and buy it!
