GWN Dragon Boat Winter Training Camp at Indian Harbor Beach, Florida
When: The camp will run in two weekly sessions from April 1,
2002 - April 6, 2002 and April 8, 2002 to April 13, 2002. The camp will run from Monday
morning until Saturday night each week.
Situated on the beautiful Banana River, part of the inland coastal waterway (one mile from
the Atlantic Ocean), the Great White North winter training camp will kick-start your
spring dragon boat preparation for 2002. The weather in early April is usually sunny
in the mid-70's to mid-80's, perfect for a canoeing holiday. You can come as an
individual, a small group or a full team, we will help you get better this year!
The coaching program will be organized by Canadian national team coach Jim Farintosh with
a guest coach to assist in a full week of progressive dragon boat training. For six
days you can forget about everything else, you will be a full time dragon boat athlete
training twice a day on the water. Stretching and other cross training activities will be
offered. Other informal activities include running, soccer, games, and swimming.
There is also a weight training facility available at a nominal cost. All
dragon boat equipment will be provided. Optional excursions to the Kennedy Space Centre
and to visit the Alligators will be offered (additional costs may apply).
This is a holiday for people who look forward to working out with like-minded people.
Suitable for all ages and levels.
Eat, sleep, paddle and whatever.... The boats will be kept at the Pines Resort (see
info below) and instructions will be given to direct you to the practice site. The
week will start and end with a BBQ or social at the Pines and you will receive a dragon
boat camp T-shirt as a souvenir of a great week.
I do hope you will be able to join us this year and start your season off with a bang.
