Welcome to the Chateau d'Marabo, the apparent residence of Lucas d'Marabo, Prince of Portage. Yes, the house looks huge. In relation to a normal ranch, the Chateau is actually rather large. Honestly for a house in the fine lakeside community, however, it is just another neighbor.
The Chateau boasts 23 bedrooms (only 15 are shown, the other 8 reside as attic rooms), a pale comparison to some of the mansions lucas has seen, 4 full baths, a 5 room Master Suite (a seperate bedroom, bathroom, boudior, hall, and a crawlspace), and a three level basement. The house stands two-and-a-half stories. An unmarked set of attic rooms line the sides of the house, and their is a balcony and a Study also situated on the thrid floor. All areas marked in Pink are raised, and areas marked in blue denote a descent. Areas marked in green relate to secrets such as false walls, covey holes, etc.
The Second & Third Floors
The second floor is the main body of the house. It connects to the public West Wing, the private East Wing, and the more social/business rooms like the study.
The public West wing opens into a small living room and library. This chamber houses a collection of classic literature and some newer, though rebound books. Most of this collection is fiction. The walls in the bedroom hall are white, and the molding is deep green. The electric sconces and the hardwear is all pewter-toned. The bathroom has a greco-roman decor, with curtained corinthian columns seperating the toilet from the bathing area. The porcelain tub has a swan motif, and decorated with pewter faucets. The ballroom can be accessed from the West Wing's Social quarters through a door from the parlor.
The East Wing is essentially a restricted area. For a while it was a disorganized and messy place, covered in dust and falling aparts slowly. But it has since been tidied up. The bedroom hall has Pompeii Red fabric lined walls, with golden accents. The Gallery Hall is a long corridor leading into the Master Suite. It contains a collection of Paintings from Lucas' Life. In order from left to right against the top wall, they are: Lucas's sister through his sire Emilia, Patricia Belle, Lucas's brother through Emilia, Andre deGaul, A large painting of Lucas's Sire, Emilia, Lucas's grand sire and Emilia's Sire, Trismigistus, and finally, a painting of Paris dated to 1811. Opposite these running right to left, are: A large painting of Lucas's father, the Marquis Rene' d'Marabo, Lucas's mother, Marie, a large painting of Lucas, a painting of Lucas's home (Southwestern French countryside) dated to 1631, and finally, Lucas's true brother, Phillip. This hall than leads into the master bedroom; a larger room decorated in purple velvets, and rich mahogonies. The room is said to be haunted. The boudior and bath that follows pull in the purple velvet and mixes it with a grey stone decor. Again, a set of curtained corinthian pillars seperate the bath and the toilet. The Parlor in the east wing has the only "known" access to the large library. It is here where Lucas keeps the majority of his collection, including his occult studies which contain an actual copy of the Necronomicon. Also included in this Library are original copies Lucas has acquired through time such as first printings of Donnely's The Antideluvian World, Newton's Alchemical recipes, and an original copy of Darwins "Origin of Species". He also has copies of local journals and prints from his travels across europe. Some date back to the middle of the 17th Century. The staircase in the center of the East Wing leads to the Basement.
The Second Floor also has the only access to the third floor balcony, situated on the tower over the main door. On the opposite side of the house from the balcony is the study, which boasts a 6 ft. window overlooking Lake Michigan. When exiting the study, one enters into the Astronomy Room; called such for a hemispherical glass dome in the ceiling, and dark blue mosaic tiles on the floor which glitter with constellations. There is a small fountain in the notch between the stairs. The study and and astronomy room are favorite spots for Lucas to lecture from.
The First Floor
The most noticeable fact about the first floor of the chateau is that it lacks windows. Unlike the second floor which is riddled with them, the first floor is closed off from sunlight in just about all way. There are only a few exceptions to this. For starters, both the library and the ballroom are open spaces that transverse the first and second floor boundries, allowing both rooms to boast large arched windows, reminscent of gothic cathedral windows. Also, A single large window in the Entrance hall above the door showers light on the staircase. The only other place where light dares to sneak in is in the "Garden Room", an atrium. It's glass walls let the sunlight warm the thriving and poisonous perrenials Lucas grows. The "Garden Room" is called such because the large glass doors open onto the cobblestone trail that leads through Lucas's walled English garden to a stone balcony, lined with broken Greco-Roman columns and arches, built on the dunes overlooking the lake. The path also branches off to the "Garden Walk". The "Garden Walk" is a hallway in the house that has no exterior door; exposing it to the elements. The hall is lined with stone (like the rest of the house) and decorated with carved arches and hanging potted plants. The gardens are also found in the front of the house where the rose lined trail circles from the wroght iron gate around a multi-teired, muse-motifed fountain, to the steps that lead to the front door of the house. Lucas likes gardens, but has no time to thoroughly tend them, so they tend to be a messy and in desperate need of a weeding.
Under the Master Suite, there is a worshop and a garage. The workshop is a big empty space with a table, tool set, and a drain in the floor. It is a very empty and cold room, and is the major place for Lucas to unpack "supplies", and to work on more physical projects. It has a secret closet, perfect for stashing unpleasant sites. The workshop is located next to the garage for its obvious ease to move objects from vehicles to the room unseen. The garage, like the workshop, is generally boring, with no special equipment except for the electronic door opener. The garage houses a dark irredescent blue BMW, and a black limousine. Occasionally, a motorcycle can be found in the garage.
The Basements
The descending circular staircase from the center of the east wing, riddled with its secret walls, leads to a simple storage and utilitarian basement, with heavy thick walls to protect it from water damage. Ventilation is a bit of a mystery, but can usually be explained away. In the basement, Lucas keeps large chests of old costums, ruined or dull paintings, and other stuff that just serves little or no purpose. Opposite the stairwell leading to the East Wing, however, is an extremely heavy, and awkward armoire. Through the armoire, an opening can be found that leads to a long descending staircase that opens into a hall. Oneway travels west to the Moonlight Manor. Through a set of heavy doors, the hall opens into a tiny dungeon. Secured in this tiny area, most captives are to lost or dazed to find their way out. Travelling down further (and now nearly two stories under the neighbors house) we enter the "Necropolis d'Marabo", a childish name for what is essentially a flooded chamber/cave. A sarcophogus-like structure built on a raised platform contains a trap door into an underground cave that opens into the lake as an emergency escape. However, a trap is set for the naive.
